Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council is an autonomous body under the Government of Kerala, Health and Family Welfare Department and was constituted by Government of Kerala under the provisions of Nurses and Midwives Act 1953. The main objectives and functions of Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council are as follows.
To establish and maintain a uniform standard of nursing education for Nurses, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives and Health Visitors by doing periodical inspection of the t he institution. To give registration to Nurses and Midwives who had undergone their training from
recognized institutions. . To conduct undergraduate courses and institutions to issue diploma and registration certificate. To conduct examinations for GNM, ANM, Post Basic Diploma Courses and Health Supervisor Courses. Power to withdraw the recognition r ecognition of qualification in case the institution fails to maintain its standards.

Education Committee: Deals with matters related to conduct of examination and policy matters concerning the nursing education. Scrutiny Committee: Scrutinizes the inspection report of colleges and schools of nursing and give report to council. Board of Examiners Examiners Board of examiners consists of President and Board Members: deals with matters related to examination and publication of results.

Three registered nurses nominated by the Government:- Two Principals of nursing schools and one nursing Superintendent Superintendent of a major hospital. Six members elected by the registered nurses, at least one shall be a member of Trained Nurses Association of India, one member from Kerala Government Nurses Association, Association, one member working in private hospital. Three members elected from Registered Auxiliary Nurse and Midwives. One member elected from registered Health Visitors.
