Charity kitty
Design by Jennie Eveleigh Lamond for Ariadne. www.ariadneknits.com Charity kitty is a free pattern to be made for organizations such as Toy Mountain (http://www.toymountain.ca). This pattern and any objects made from it may not be sold for profit. Finished kitties may be brought or mailed to Ariadne at 3837 rue St. Jacques, Montreal, QC, H4C 1H5 and we will deliver them. Finished Size: 22.5 cm/10 inches Gauge: 7 sts and 9 rows = 1 inch / 2.5cm Yarn: (Shown in Inca Gold Warani: 50g = 100m) 1 ball Aztec Red (2055) and 1 ball Natural (100) will make two cats Needles: 3.0mm / US 2 dpns Notions: stuffing, black embroidery floss, four small flower shaped buttons for embellishment Useful Abbreviations: Kfb: Knit into the front and back of the next stitch. Increases one stitch. Ssk: Slip the next two stitches on to the right needle as if to knit. Then insert the left needle back into those two stitches and knit them together. Decreases one stitch. K2tog: Insert the right needle through the next two stitches on the left needle and knit them together. Decreases one stitch.

Head and Body
Ears: *Using Natural, CO 3 Row 1: Kfb 3 times Row 2: K all sts Row 3: (K1, kfb) 3 times Rows 4 – 5: K all sts Row 6: (K2, kfb) 3 times Rows 7: K all sts Break yarn and put all sts on holder** Repeat from * to ** to make the second ear. Row 16: (Ssk) 3 times, k2, (k2tog) 3 times, (ssk) 3 times, k2, (k2tog) 3 times (16 sts) Row 17: K Body: Break off yarn and change colour to red. Row 57: (k2tog, k5) 4 times (24 sts) Row 58: (k2tog, k4) 4 times (20 sts) Row 59: (k2tog, k3) 4 times (16 sts) Row 60: (k2tog, k2) 4 times (12 sts) Row 61: (k2tog, k1) 4 times (8 sts) Row 62: (k2tog) 4 times (4 sts) Break yarn and thread through live sts, pull tight and secure.

Legs (make 2)
Using natural, CO 9 sts. Row 1: (k2, kfb) 3 times (12 sts) Rows 2 - 23: K Break yarn and switch colour to red Row 24: K all sts Row 25: P all sts Row 26: K1, kfb, kfb, K9 (14 sts) Row 27 – 30: K all sts Row 31: (k2tog) 7 times (7 sts) Stuff leg at this point. Row 32: K1, (K2tog) 3 times Break yarn and thread though live sts, secure tightly.

Row 22: K Row 23: Kfb, k1, kfb, k6 (11 sts) Row 24: Kfb, kfb, k1, kfb, kfb, k6 (15 sts) Row 25: K2, slip next 5 sts to holder, k8 (10 live sts) Rows 26 – 29: K all sts Row 30: (k2tog) 5 times Break yarn and draw through live sts, secure tightly. Re-attach white yarn to stitches on holder for thumb. K 3 rounds. K2tog, k1, k2tog. Break yarn and draw through last 3 sts, secure tightly.

Scarf
CO 6 sts with white K 1 row, switch to red, K 2 rows, switch to white, k 2 rows. Continue in garter st and k 2 rows red, two rows white until scarf measures 7 inches. Cast off.

Finishing
Put fringe on scarf, sew button to front of Charity Cat’s dress, embroider face, and stuff head and body. Sew top of head shut, stuff limbs and sew to body. Give Charity away to a child who will enjoy her.

Arms (make 2)
Using red, CO 6 sts. Row 1: (k1, kfb) 3 times (9 sts) Rows 2 – 20: K Row 21: P Break yarn and switch to natural.
