JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Organization: Program/Dept: Location: Reports to: Classification: Salary Range: Counselor Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. (AARS, Inc.) Project Reconnect San Francisco Program Manager Regular, Full-Time, Non-Exempt $35,000 – $45,000 p.a.

Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. was the first community-based organization in the United States to target treatment services to Asian and Pacific Islander youth. Today, AARS, Inc. is the largest provider of culturally competent substance abuse services to Asian and Pacific Islander (A/PI) youth in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. AARS, Inc. is a national leader in health education and substance abuse treatment. The San Francisco Project Reconnect site was the second outpatient substance abuse treatment program for A/PI youth in the nation - our Santa Clara site is the first. In San Francisco, Project Reconnect targets A/PI youth and transitional age youth between the ages of (12-24) and other youth communities of color throughout the city and county of San Francisco. We provide confidential substance abuse treatment services for all youth regardless of ethnic and/or cultural backgrounds. Our SF Project Reconnect services are delivered on-site as well as on many of the San Francisco Unified School District high schools and middle school campuses and the San Francisco Juvenile Probation Department. Services include: outreach and engagement, educational interactive and interpersonal drug and alcohol workshops, individual / group and family counseling, and educational presentations at community based organizations. We also offer our clients alternative social and recreational activities as they relate to the well-being and growth of our clients. Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned): Develop contacts with high risk youth and their families through schools, community organizations, San Francisco Juvenile Probation Department/Courts; • Develop and implement strategies to conduct outreach to at-risk youth, community providers, juvenile probation department/courts, schools, and media to publicize services; • Develop and distribute Alcohol and Other Drug informational packets, brochures, and other materials. • Participate in substance abuse education and cross-cultural counseling trainings; • Conduct screenings, assessments, and intakes for referred and identified clients; • Provide individual and group counseling and case management to high-risk youth and their families; • Maintain confidential client files and progress notes; • Engage in bi-annual/annual evaluations, ensuring goals and objectives are met; • Complete reporting requirements in a timely fashion; • Attend all clinical and staff meetings; • Willingness to work flexible hours.


Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and at least 2 years equivalence working in the field of substance abuse; • Two years experience working with youth in group and individual counseling settings; • Alcohol and Drug Certified or willing to become registered and certified in the field; • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and internet access for electronic filing (Avatar); • Skilled / Knowledgeable in: Seeking Safety treatment model, Trauma–Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psycho-social-education and Motivational Interviewing and familiar with Motivational Enhancement Therapy/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy -5;

Ability to satisfy deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail; Ability to analyze situations, clarify priorities, recommend and implement appropriate resolutions; Understanding of social, mental health, and substance abuse services and criminal and juvenile justice systems; Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate professional ethics and diplomacy at all times; Knowledge of the principles and techniques of social work, case management, crisis intervention, and client centered counseling and group facilitation; Strong written, presentation, and verbal communication skills; Bicultural/Bilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and/or Tagalog preferred or other API language.
