Introduction
 A dropped ceiling is a secondary ceiling, hung
below the main (structural) ceiling. They may also
be referred to as a drop, false, or suspended
ceiling, and are a staple of modern construction
and architecture.

Introduction

False ceilings are used in special cases such as:

 Hiding system connections (electric wires, ac
connections, ducts…etc)
 Lighting systems
 Interior decorations
 Acoustic control
 Special design cases
Types
 Tiles

 Gypsum boards

 Strips

 Mix
Differences

 False ceiling systems differ in material, shape and
color, while they all have the suspension grid in
common.

1. Tiles

 60x60 – 60x120 cm2
 Metal, gypsum, mineral fibers, wood
 Needs complimentary accessories
 Open variety in colors

Differences
2. Gypsum board
 300x120 cm2
 Colors: red (fire resistant), green (humidity
resistant), white (moderate resistance)
 No accessories applied

Differences
3. Strips
 Metal, wood
 No accessories applied

Installation
 Go to the company with your plan
 Dimensions don’t have to be accurate,
considering installation takes place on site.
 Based on dimensions and
chosen materials, prices
are determined.
 Suspension grid consists
of main rods and
secondary rods.
Installation
 Suspension grid is supported in the main ceiling
by three ways: metal wires, two rods connected
together (Asfoora), threaded rod (teesh).

 Put up L shaped supports to maintain an aligned
ceiling.

Installation
Gypsum board:
 Installed directly on the nodes of the suspension
grid by gypsum nails.
Installation
 Cover gaps with scotch tape, then apply paste
on the ceiling thoroughly aligning it.
 Paint the ceiling with chosen
materials and colors.
 Gypsum board is light weight.
 Can easily be cut.

Installation
Tiles
 Needs complimentary accessories.
 T sections are installed every 120x60 or 60x60
cm dividing the grid into portions.
Installation

 Install tiles on top of T section grid.

Installation
 There are different ways to lay
down the tile, depending on
tile shape.

 Metal: acoustic controller,

Problems
General problems:
 Rarely faces problems after installation.
 In case of problem, like disintegration of grid or
tile replacement…etc, a maintenance opening is
applied.

During-Installation problems:

 Sometimes the ceiling is inclined so we have to
adjust grid levels.

 T sections could be inaccurate, causing large
gaps.

Prices
Gypsum board:
 70-100 L.E./m2
 110-140 L.E./m2
 Depending on shape and material
Tiles:
 60-150 L.E./m2 (metal)
 40-70 L.E./m2 (mineral fibers)
 20-30 L.E./m2 (gypsum)
Strips:
 100-150 L.E./m2
