Family and Medical Leave Act Surveys: Letter
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law that provides unpaid, job-protected leave for eligible employees who need to attend to family and/or medical issues. It was signed into law in 1993.In April 2011, the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor announced a formal proposal to conduct surveys of employees and employers about the use and need for the FMLA.This letter to the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division strongly urges the Department to conduct these surveys. The information collected will enable the Department to better fulfill its mission to promote and achieve compliance with labor standards, protect and enhance the welfare of the nation’s workforce, and assure work-related benefits and rights. The letter, signed on to by Legal Momentum and 89 other organizations, also suggests minor changes to enhance the quality and clarity of the information collected.
