Opinion/Persuasive Writing Homework

– My Favorite Book Dear Parents,
We have been learning about persuasive writing in our first grade classroom. The
children have been preparing to write a piece in which they will try and persuade a
friend to read their favorite book. Your help is needed in assisting your child to choose
their favorite fiction or non-fiction book. To keep things simple, please choose a book
that they know very well (not a chapter book).
After selecting a book, your child will need your assistance in choosing the two things
that they love most about the book. It could be a character, an illustration, the fact that
the book is a rhyming book, a cumulative book, it's descriptive language etc. They will
also need to state why they like it. For example: I love the illustration of the pig in a
police uniform because it makes me laugh, I love the descriptive words that the author
uses especially when she says, “The _____________.”
If you do not have access to your child's favorite book, please let me know and I will try
to help locate the book in our school library. Your child will need to bring their book to
school by Friday, January 31st.
