NIIT’s approach to remediation programs at increasing student retention is
to identify the “at-risk” group. The adaptive remediation strategy has two
critical processes: Continuous Risk Profiling and Continuous Intervention.
This activity is focused on categorizing students as red, amber and green. Red
category students are most likely to dropout or not succeed in a particular
course. Categorization monitors student progress at each milestone because
the milestone is closely tied to the final course outcome.
Based on NIIT’s experience we believe that the key to improving retention
lies in the understanding of how specific forces affect the student. Some
forces may be common for a subject/school; the interplay of these forces
is however most often unique to the student. We have found that the best
strategy for an institution to use in addressing student retention is to
deploy a remediation program that is personalized to the particular needs
of students.
