Eurozone braced for 'catastrophe' as Greek PM concedes defeat in
crucial election leaving radical left-wing anti-austerity party on
brink of historic victory
Supporters of anti-austerity party Syriza were jubilant tonight as projections put the party on 149 to 151 seats in the Greek parliament - where it needs 151 for an overall majority.
Conservative pro-austerity Prime Minister Antonis Samaras (bottom right) phoned Syriza's 40-year-old leader Alexis Tsipras (top right) - who looks set to become the youngest Greek
premier in 150 years - to concede defeat as exit polls gave the left-wing party 36 to 38 per cent of the vote. The ruling New Democracy party had just 26 to 28 per cent of the vote. Mr
Samaras had warned of 'catastrophe' if Greece does not keep up with its side of a bailout deal with the European Central Bank, which has forced it to adopt crippling austerity
measures in recent years.

Poundstretcher workers lost store's
entire day's takings on roulette table
because they wanted to know what it felt
like to 'put it on red'
Kieron Trott and
Christopher Cameron, from
Sunderland were forced to
quit their jobs at
Poundstretcher after the
bet went sour.
Downing Street said David Cameron received the hoax
call on an official mobile phone after the caller claimed to
be Robert Hannigan, the director of Government
intelligence agency GCHQ. A spokesman confirmed Mr
Cameron ended the 'quite brief' conversation when it
became clear it was a hoax and no sensitive information
was disclosed during the call. It came after an earlier
hoax call to GCHQ in which the caller obtained a mobile
number for Robert Hannigan, the director of the
government's monitoring agency.

The Met Office imposed a severe weather warning for snow for north-west England, Scotland and Northern Ireland this
Wednesday and Thursday. And its forecasters warned 2in (5cm) could fall locally at low levels this week, while higher
ground above 500ft could see more than 4in (10cm). Strong and gusty winds are likely to accompany snow showers
and lead to significantly reduced visibility at times, the Met Office added. Pictured: A layer of frost in Malmesbury,

Shocked diver finds amazing 10,000-year-
old FOREST hidden under the North Sea
which once stretched as far as Europe
Diver Dawn Watson, 45, discovered the remarkable 'lost forest' of ancient oak trees with eight-metre branches when
she was diving just 300 metres off the coast of Cley next the Sea, Norfolk. Experts believe the 10,000-year-old forest
has been hidden in the North Sea since the Ice Age and was only exposed as a result of the stormy weather last winter.
Ms Watson, who runs the Marine Conservation Society's survey project, Seasearch in East Anglia with partner Rob
Spray, said she was 'absolutely thrilled' with the find. The fallen trees are now lying on the ground where they have
formed a natural reef, which is teaming with colourful fish, plants and wildlife.

The group of militants all moved from their native Portugal to London, where they converted to Islam before adopting
extremist views and travelling to Syria to join the terrorist network's ranks. The men, who lived in Leyton and
Walthamstow, have long been on the radar of intelligence officials - who believe the group plays a vital role in the
production and dissemination of the sick beheading videos featuring Jihadi John (inset). The youngest of the terror cell,
Fabio Pocas (top left), 22, played at the same Portuguese academy as Cristiano Ronaldo, before joining an amateur
side in London (top right). One of the group's ringleaders is Nero Saraiva (bottom left), who lived in a one-bedroom
council flat in Walthamstow for three years. A month before James Foley's death, he tweeted about an upcoming
'message to America' (inset left) - suggesting advance knowledge of the journalist's fate. Also in the cell is Celso
Rodrigues da Costa (bottom right), 28, who is thought to have attended an Arsenal trial training session before
becoming radicalised.

the St Mary Magdalene Church service on foot, the Queen travelled in her chauffeur-driven Bentley.

'It made me feel ashamed of the world':
Shocked reaction of teenage girls on visit to
Auschwitz with survivor whose job it was to
collect dead bodies when she was their age
Students Lydia Hollingsworth (centre right), 15, and Natalia Smith (right), 17, visited Auschwitz with Kitty Hart-Moxon
(centre;; and left, in her younger days), of Harpenden, Hertfordshire, who was a prisoner there for two years. Mrs Hart-
Moxon, 88, was sent to Auschwitz aged just 16 - but somehow survived and is now determined to teach a new
generation the truth about the horrors of the Nazi regime. As they toured the notorious site (bottom right), the two
teenagers were shocked as they visited the buildings where more than one million people lost their lives.

When this cat found himself in a spot of bother, help was on hand from an unlikely source. As the cat frantically tried to
pull a paper cup off its head by wheeling round in circles, a dog trotted on to the scene and came to the rescue. The
dog approached the distressed cat and removed the cup from its head with its jaw, setting it free.

Two cute! Cute twins crack up laughing at
each other after discovering the game of
peekaboo
Sometimes all it takes is one of the simplest, oldest games - one that crosses cultures and languages - to garner the
most fun, and this brother and sister have just found that out. Video of the pair playing after dinner has gone viral, after
the little boy drew a curtain in front of his face (bottom right) and hid from his sister, before quickly revealing himself.
The result is the two erupting with giggles, and the footage is infectious to say the least.

Huge whale found dead at U.S. dock after
being struck by a ship's propeller
A 32-foot gray whale that turned up dead under the Washington state ferry terminal in downtown Seattle died earlier
this week because it was struck by the propeller of a large vessel, according to the initial results of a necropsy
completed Saturday. The necropsy found large, deep gashes on the whale's right side and back, indicating the cause of
death. The gashes extended into the whale's body cavity and the propeller's force had sheared off one of its ribs.
