If so, you may be entitled to compensation...

Give us a call on 01244 349 710 we will do the rest...

CHECK THE SMALL PRINT ON YOUR LOAN
In recent days, we have won a £40,000 out-of-court settlement on behalf of a client. We are advising people who may have been mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) that they can claim refunds from lenders. It is amazing how many people are not aware of the existence of PPI on their loans. The purpose of PPI is to pay out in the event of an accident, sickness or unemployment. However, many policies we have examined were totally unsuitable or impossible to claim against. Examples of our cases include where the borrowers are self employed, retired or had an existing medical condition. Many people have been sold PPI without understanding the consequences. Borrowers have even been told by sales people that they could not obtain the loan without purchasing the PPI. Large premiums are often added to the loan at the outset which also racks up the interest. Large commissions are invariable involved. We advise all readers to check their loan documentation and to contact us. We will be happy to check over the documentation for free. If you think you may have a claim, please call us on 01244 349710. We do not charge any upfront fees.

HEALTH AND BEAUTY
with Angela Bartlett
Q. Help! I have very puffy skin below my eyes. What can I do to reduce the puffiness? A. This question is asked so frequently that i have decided to give an extended answer to your question. The solution to puffy eyes will depend very much on the cause of the puffiness. If you have always had puffy eyes, this may indicate that you are genetically predisposed to having fatty deposits in this area; or, the puffiness could be a result of ageing when the fat pads beneath the skin start to shift altering the eye contour. in both of these instances there is really is no cure other than with surgery. However, if your eyes aren’t usually puffy and you awake to find your under eye area is swollen, this type of puffiness is related to inflammation. Firstly, you need to apply something to reduce the swelling. Cold compresses are a good, quick and inexpensive solution because cold causes swollen skin to contract. Soak cotton wool pads or a piece of clean cloth in cold (not icy cold) water, or apply a gel-filled eye mask from the refrigerator. Cold cucumber slices are also helpful, but they work because they are cool, not because they have any magical ingredient. you can also apply used, cooled tea bags, however they need to be the caffeinated type as the caffeine together with the tannins helps to contract the distended skin. Whatever you decide to use, lightly press the cold compress on the puffy areas for several minutes to help the swelling subside. Continual puffing up and then deflating of the delicate skin around the eyes will eventually lead to eye bags and wrinkling so it’s important to find the cause of the puffiness. if you wear eye makeup ensure that you are removing all traces every night. Avoid using an oily eye makeup remover as this can often cause puffiness. Whilst on the subject of skin care products make sure that you use a product specifically designed for the delicate eye area and use the product very sparingly. A bead of eye cream about the size of a grain of rice is ample for the eye area. During the daytime it is also important that your eye cream contains a sunscreen to prevent the thin, fragile skin around the eyes from premature wrinkling. Check the ingredient list of your skin care products to ensure that they do not contain fragrance. Throw out any products that contain fragrance. Rubbing the eyes can also lead to puffiness and check out any allergies that you may have from pollens or food with your GP.

JuLy – HIgH SummER
In July, many of the flowering shrubs are over and colour comes from the perennials in your garden.
Cool blues can be found in lavenders which enjoy hot dry situations and will seed themselves into gravel if you have a gravel path or drive. Lavender Hidcote with dark blue flowers is a smaller shrub than the original English Lavender which has longer stems of pale blue flowers. Both look good bordering a path or near a seating area where you can brush against the foliage to release the scent. They can die off in hard winters and tend to become sparse with age so expect to replace them after a few years. Once flowering is over, clip the shrub back but do not cut back into wood without green growth. Lavenders do not sprout new shoots from leafless wood. Try planting lavender with deep purple sage plants for contrast in foliage colour and texture. There are some good robust perennials that flower in July that will come up year after year and require little attention. if you want vibrant magenta colour, try the perennial geranium

gARDENINg By JANET HEATH

Ann Folkard. The plant is not very tall and produces stems of flowers with black and magenta pink flowers from summer to autumn. Cut off the stems after flowering and more should be produced in autumn. Plant the geranium with a yellow Hemerocallis or day lily for a bright and cheerful display of contrasting shapes and colours. Hemerocallis come in a range of large and small varieties with grassy or strap like leaves and tall heads of lily flowers in July. in the vegetable garden, plant out winter leeks and brassicas such as broccoli and sprouts. Sow lettuce when the weather is cooler, germination of lettuce seeds is poor in high temperatures so wait for a cooler period before sowing seed. Net fruit such as strawberries and blueberries so the birds do not eat the fruit first. Raspberries seem to be largely immune probably as the fruit is not so easy for birds to reach. growing trend towards ow
THE glorious weather helped to attract hundreds of visitors to the Hoole Allotments open day last month. Members of the Hoole Allotments and Gardeners’ Association (HAGA( were overjoyed to show so many people around the 13 acre site off Canadian Avenue. it seems only recently that the nearly half of the site was going to be bulldozed to make way for a tennis centre. But the plans never came to fruition and the allotments have gone from strength to strength. Now there is a big waiting list for plots as more and more people are attracted to the outdoor lifestyle. Known as something of an ‘urban village’ the allotments are brimming with life with gardeners taking so much pride in their plots. The allotments have been an important feature in Hoole life for almost 100 years and some plots are worked by the third generation of local families. The site is council controlled, with the help of HAGA, whose membership support the shop and the running and improvement of the colony’s facilities. THE NEW RELIgION?

It has been said that Football is the new religion. The ‘beautiful game’ certainly does generate a lot of passion and love it or loathe it you certainly can’t get way from it. How many pages of newspaper and magazine print have been taken up with the media interest in the lives of some of the modern day football superstars? The Sunday papers devote dozens of pages covering the events from the previous day plus every day of the week on Sky you can watch a live match. Here in Chester we have read with interest the fall and hopeful rise of Chester City FC! Certainly football as a sport has developed over the last 10 years with attendances increasing across the Premier and Championship Leagues by 31% with television audiences growing to just under 25 million viewers per season! As i write this it seems as though we have wall to wall coverage of football as the world Cup takes place in South Africa, the question will England do well in 2010 preoccupies many, although by the time you read this the answer will be academic as either England will be out or they’ve progressed as far as the semi finals!! Certainly the pubs in and around Hoole are all geared up and focused on the World Cup with many of them showing all the games live! So how do football and Christianity compare? An interesting statistic i read recently was that there are still more people in church on a Sunday then in all the football stadiums across England, when you reflect on football matches certainly there are some similarities to Christian worship: • Where do large crowds gather to sing and chant? Churches and football grounds. • Where do large crowds raise their hands in the air in exultation? Churches and football grounds. • Where do people gather to express their collective aspirations, their feelings, their emotions? Churches and football grounds. Now of course the resemblance is only superficial. Bread and wine is not the same as pies and Bovril. The adulation of our football heroes falls short of worship but only just. All our footballers can do is play football to the limit of their ability. They give us delight when they show their skills, and satisfaction when they win on our behalf. So does this make football a new religion – it’s certainly true there are some familiar characteristics with going to a football match and attending church. Where else would you find groups of adults singing and gathering together to worship? Where can you belong to a crowd of people who are all following the same thing? We are making the players into idols, and the ‘professional game’ some would say is in crisis. The amount of money invested in the top clubs is immoral and can sometimes make the players and managers seem “god like” in their adoration and following. So i would suggest for some it is! Don’t get me wrong i love football but it is not the No 1 thing in my life; there is only person who is really worth following and worshipping, he is Jesus Christ. I stayed in a really old hotel last night. They sent me a wake-up letter. Andy Glover has lived in Hoole with his wife Sue for 20 years. Andy began at Hoole Baptist Church, on Westminster Road, as youth Pastor, before becoming the Pastor and now Team Leader.
