Hotel redevelopment wins industry ‘oscar’ THE redevelopment of the Doubletree by Hilton hotel at Hoole Hall has been praised in architectural awards. The hotel won the prize in the Tourism and Leisure category at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors North West awards in Manchester. The £28m redevelopment, which has seen the addition of 140 bedrooms, a spa and the Marco Pierre Steakhouse, was carried out by Sanguine Hospitality with designs by architects Falconer Chester Hall.

Hoole news Centre decision soon COUNCILLORS will make a decision soon on the fate of Lightfoot Lodge, in Hoole, which is threatened with closure. Cheshire West and Chester Council has nished its 12 week consultation on the proposal to shut the respite centre on Lightfoot Street. If approved, the premises will be closed in September. A new 72-bed facility is being built on the site of the old Woodeld School, in Newton which would replace the likes of Lightfoot Lodge, Curzon House and Sutton Beeches. Nancy Price celebrated her 100th birthday at Lightfoot Lodge last month. She attends the centre three times a week for day care. Flat fre rescue
A MUM rescued her ve-year-old daughter from a re at a at in Gosforth Place, Hoole, last month. She was alerted by the smoke alarm and led her daughter through the smoke-lled at to safety. It is believed that the re was caused by an electric storage heater.

Marathon girl Jenny is still collecting! HOOLE’S Jenny Beyer nshed the London Marathon in a very creditable 4hrs 41mins. Jenny, from Oaklea Avenue, said: “I was really pleased and managed to keep going the whole time. It was a fantastic experience that I will never forget and I would like to thank everyone for their support whether it be through sponsorship or attending my fundraising events. So far the amount raised is £2,370 for Children with Leukaemia and I am still collecting!” Top army cadet

Business quarter could bring hundreds of jobs to the area HUNDREDS of jobs could come to the Hoole area with the creation of a new Business Quarter. Public consultation has begun on a vision document and development framework to create the Central Business Quarter for Chester near the railway station. The Vision will set the overall picture for the transformation of the area East of the City Centre beyond the City Walls – deemed to be ‘critical to Chester’s ambition to be a world class city.’ And the draft framework denes in further detail the development based around the railway station. It will aim to incorporate restoration and new-development to provide a variety
of accommodation ranging from large corporations and headquarters to starter units and small and medium enterprises. The proposed scheme will focus on low energy consumption, recycling and conservation techniques. Social, economic and environmental sustainability will be key principles in its design. All will be set within new high quality planned public spaces- greens, plazas, squares gardens and activity parks, with a wide range of amenities. Said Regeneration Director Charlie Seward: “The NWDA identication of this area as a Strategic Employment Site provides us with a wonderful opportunity to create a development which will greatly benet Chester, but also the Cheshire and Warrington Sub Region and the whole of the North West. “There has been signicant interest from the local business community and major regional and national investors.”

Q. My lips are quite thin and I am noticing that as I am getting older they are getting thinner. Is there anything I can do to make them look fuller? A. As we age we lose fatty tissue from the lips making them look thinner. The most effective method of restoring their fullness is with dermal ller injections. Small, temporary injections of hylauronic acid which are administered to the vermilion border of the lips (the juncture between the lighter skin and the redder tissue of the lip) to give a natural plumpness without giving the dreaded ‘trout pout’ as demonstrated by Leslie Ash. If injections are not for you, then try micropigmentation lip blush. A soft line of colour is tattooed around the lip area giving the impression of a fuller, more dened lip line. There are also some great make-up tips for you to try. Use lighter shades of lipstick with high shine to reect light and give the illusion fullness. Also try one of the many lip-plumping products on the market. They generally work by containing ingredients such as cinnamon which irritate the lips to stimulate the circulation and cause slight swelling leading to a fuller looking lip. Hoole History Corner Len Morgan writes about Hoole’s religious buildings
HOOLE ALL SAINS PARISH CHURCH HOOLE All Saints Parish Church was the first of the seven churches to be built in Hoole. Te land for the Church was donated by the Hamilton family. Te building itself was designed by Samuel Daukes of Whitechapel and built of red sandstone from Runcorn at a cost of £8,462. Te stained glass windows were added as follows: 1919 David and Jonathon (valour and loyalty) in memory of Rev RC Morrison, a curate killed in action in 1916. 1924 Simeon and Anna in memory of Rev F Anderson and his wife, the first vicar of Hoole 1871 – 1907. 1930 St Paul in memory of Matthew Loam, head teacher of All Saints School and Church Warden who died in 1929. 1947 St omas and St Paul in memory of Rev A Wise, vicar of Hoole 1930-44, who died in the vicarage. Te Church itself opened its door on Christmas Eve 186 although it was not officially consecrated until 1871. In that same year Mary Hamilton, who donated the church tower and steeple, further donated five bells to be hung in the steeple. Te vicarage was built in 1885 of brick. Tis marked the start of the building of vicarage road, which was competed in 1894. Te first public clock in Hoole was added to three faces of All Saints steeple tower in 1904 in memory of Charles Brown of Browns of Chester fame who died in 1900. He was patron of the church and donated the first organ in 1891. By 1910 the church was at full capacity so it was enlarged by another 188 seats by adding the south aisle at a cost of £1,750. IS DADS’ DEN FOR YOU? Things have changed a lot since I was a boy. I was born in 1966, another World Cup year, and it was during the 1960’s that there was a survey carried out looking at the greatest fears of secondary school children. This was repeated in 2000. I have listed below just a brief comparison of what were the top 4 results, these results were:

Hotel redevelopment wins industry ‘oscar’ THE redevelopment of the Doubletree by Hilton hotel at Hoole Hall has been praised in architectural awards. The hotel won the prize in the Tourism and Leisure category at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors North West awards in Manchester. The £28m redevelopment, which has seen the addition of 140 bedrooms, a spa and the Marco Pierre Steakhouse, was carried out by Sanguine Hospitality with designs by architects Falconer Chester Hall.

Hoole news Centre decision soon COUNCILLORS will make a decision soon on the fate of Lightfoot Lodge, in Hoole, which is threatened with closure. Cheshire West and Chester Council has nished its 12 week consultation on the proposal to shut the respite centre on Lightfoot Street. If approved, the premises will be closed in September. A new 72-bed facility is being built on the site of the old Woodeld School, in Newton which would replace the likes of Lightfoot Lodge, Curzon House and Sutton Beeches. Marathon girl Jenny is still collecting! HOOLE’S Jenny Beyer nshed the London Marathon in a very creditable 4hrs 41mins. Jenny, from Oaklea Avenue, said: “I was really pleased and managed to keep going the whole time. Business quarter could bring hundreds of jobs to the area HUNDREDS of jobs could come to the Hoole area with the creation of a new Business Quarter. Public consultation has begun on a vision document and development framework to create the Central Business Quarter for Chester near the railway station. The Vision will set the overall picture for the transformation of the area East of the City Centre beyond the City Walls – deemed to be ‘critical to Chester’s ambition to be a world class city.’ And the draft framework denes in further detail the development based around the railway station. It will aim to incorporate restoration and new-development to provide a variety
of accommodation ranging from large corporations and headquarters to starter units and small and medium enterprises. The proposed scheme will focus on low energy consumption, recycling and conservation techniques. Social, economic and environmental sustainability will be key principles in its design. All will be set within new high quality planned public spaces- greens, plazas, squares gardens and activity parks, with a wide range of amenities. Q. My lips are quite thin and I am noticing that as I am getting older they are getting thinner. Is there anything I can do to make them look fuller? A. As we age we lose fatty tissue from the lips making them look thinner. The most effective method of restoring their fullness is with dermal ller injections. Small, temporary injections of hylauronic acid which are administered to the vermilion border of the lips (the juncture between the lighter skin and the redder tissue of the lip) to give a natural plumpness without giving the dreaded ‘trout pout’ as demonstrated by Leslie Ash. If injections are not for you, then try micropigmentation lip blush. A soft line of colour is tattooed around the lip area giving the impression of a fuller, more dened lip line. There are also some great make-up tips for you to try. Use lighter shades of lipstick with high shine to reect light and give the illusion fullness. Also try one of the many lip-plumping products on the market. They generally work by containing ingredients such as cinnamon which irritate the lips to stimulate the circulation and cause slight swelling leading to a fuller looking lip. Hoole History Corner Len Morgan writes about Hoole’s religious buildings
HOOLE ALL SAINS PARISH CHURCH HOOLE All Saints Parish Church was the first of the seven churches to be built in Hoole. Te land for the Church was donated by the Hamilton family. Te building itself was designed by Samuel Daukes of Whitechapel and built of red sandstone from Runcorn at a cost of £8,462. Te stained glass windows were added as follows: 1919 David and Jonathon (valour and loyalty) in memory of Rev RC Morrison, a curate killed in action in 1916. 1924 Simeon and Anna in memory of Rev F Anderson and his wife, the first vicar of Hoole 1871 – 1907. 1930 St Paul in memory of Matthew Loam, head teacher of All Saints School and Church Warden who died in 1929. 1947 St omas and St Paul in memory of Rev A Wise, vicar of Hoole 1930-44, who died in the vicarage. Te Church itself opened its door on Christmas Eve 186 although it was not officially consecrated until 1871. In that same year Mary Hamilton, who donated the church tower and steeple, further donated five bells to be hung in the steeple. Te vicarage was built in 1885 of brick. Tis marked the start of the building of vicarage road, which was competed in 1894. Te first public clock in Hoole was added to three faces of All Saints steeple tower in 1904 in memory of Charles Brown of Browns of Chester fame who died in 1900. He was patron of the church and donated the first organ in 1891. By 1910 the church was at full capacity so it was enlarged by another 188 seats by adding the south aisle at a cost of £1,750. (a small charity) established in 1993, enables children, young people and young adults of all abilities to become active and valued citizens. The Live! organisation offers opportunities for these children and young people to interact with their peers, have fun and feel valued. Activities seek to address individual specic needs and provide opportunities for personal development in positive life and social skills.
