Dear Parents, Our grade 9 and 10 exams are completed and early next week the grade 11 exams will also be finished. A few years back we made a commitment to our students that all students would receive quality feedback about their performance in their final exams and this is why as a High School we made a conscious decision to move the exams forward, from the traditional last days of a semester. Research in educational assessment has also shown that students can be assessed using authentic, contextual performance tasks that have much better transfer of knowledge and understanding than traditional exams. Thus we are promoting the use of these assessments throughout the semester and where appropriate even during the last three weeks of school. We are confident that our high school students will be fully engaged right into the last week of school. As I write this article I am just about to head off to the PTA end of year Despedida, designed to thank staff and faculty and to farewell departing teachers. It is of course that time of year when we begin the process of “signing out”. In the High School I talk of our “big four” ritual ceremonies that serve to mark the end of the year. On Thursday May 20th we have the annual Honor Societies celebration. This is followed on Monday May 24th when we celebrate academic and service excellence at the High School Honors Awards ceremony. Later that same week, on Friday May 28th we will graduate 167 seniors at High School Graduation. Perhaps of more interest for students is the Junior-Senior Prom to be held on Saturday, May 22nd. I hope to see many of you in attendance as we celebrate another rewarding year. As usual at this time I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents who have directly or indirectly supported the High School this year. Parent participation in ISM High School events has never been stronger and I am sure that this has been a significant contributor to our success in academics and in the cultural and sporting arenas. Whether it was your involvement in PTA, a committee, attending parent coffees, on the sport field or court, or providing encouragement to our performing arts, I really do want to state our appreciation for your ongoing support. Our programs would not be as rich and as successful without your involvement. On an administrative note it is very important at this time of year is that the school receives accurate data on re-enrollment and on those students who are withdrawing. If you know you are leaving ISM and have not communicated that to us I urge you to contact either the High School Office or the Admissions Office before May 15. We would like to be able to inform students who are currently waitlisted that they can be admitted to ISM as soon as is practically possible. Kind regards,

William R. S. Brown High School Principal

Michael Dickinson High School Assistant Principal
