Gaining Knowledge, Online Courses, Assessments, Training, Quizzes and Self Learning
I) INTRODUCTION:
Even though students grasp some technical stuff from class room some students would like to get
some technical guidance through net. For such studious people a platform called MASSIVE OPEN
ONLINE COURSES (MOOC) will be a good choice. This will also be applicable for students those who
interested to grab some stuff which is apart from their curriculum. There arises a major questions like
will it be useful? And whether I will have lot of choices to choose what is necessary for me.
II) HISTORICAL VIEW:
Earlier the content of MOOC’s are open licensed. Now closed license system is followed throughout all
platforms. We can say that this MOOC’S are some upgraded versions of correspondence courses which
were followed earlier. In olden days, some peculiar courses such as courses for civil service test and
shorthand courses were promoted by door to door salesmen. But now we could see many MOOC
platforms in our digital display.
During 1920’s, In America over four million of them applied for correspondence course which is more
than that of regular students strength. But their completion rate is 3%. During 1922’s New York
University started their own radio station to relay their practical courses. There was no perseverance
in this system and they faced some difficulties in finding out mistakes which were done by students.
They also faced some difficulties in collecting money for these courses.
Further development over this system was happened during 1940’s-1950’s during which a
component called two ways short wave radio system was used to nurture some knowledge to people
at remote areas. This communication will also help people to raise questions and so they will
experience some better clarity.
In 1994 a concept called Seminar was emerged which attracted people from various parts of the
world. An individual with an internet access or radio can avail this seminar was the constraint during
1990’s.
The term MOOC was coined by Dave cornier and Bryan Alexander in 2008. The first MOOC was
emerged from Open Educational Resource (OER).
III. RECENT TRENDS IN MOOC
Year 2012 is considered to be “The Year of MOOC” as many financial firms come forward to tie up with
top universities to construct many platforms for students those who cannot avail such courses in top
universities.
Big Data University, Udemy, Coursera, Future Learn, Alison and edx are some of the platforms which
are well known for MOOC courses. This MOOC’S created a great impact over people across many
continents like Europe, Asia, and America. The following are the best online learning platforms.

Conclusion:
To conclude, e-learning such as MOOC’s will change the traditional way of teaching and it will
provide the environment by the way teaching staff will learn about the future of teaching pedagogy.
Institutions will need to look and learn from the different initiatives outside traditional institutions
that are developing new business, financial and revenue mode and it will definitely meet the different
needs of learners group in the market place. Today’s generation of faculty members graduated under
traditional way of teaching while the next generations of faculty members will graduate will utilize
ICT and e-learning as a natural ingredient for their education. The possibilities of how far ICT and elearning will influence education could be far reaching.
