The Epsom Salt Benefit of Floating
By Alma Sander-Landis, LMT, Metamorphosis Float Tank Location

psom salt is a mineral composed of magnesium sulfate. The name “Epsom” comes from Epsom, England, where it was discovered centuries ago. People have been using this compound for its health benefits. Magnesium deficiency is becoming more common as we deplete our minerals in food sources, etc. Since magnesium is easily absorbed through the skin, it makes sense to derive the full benefit of magnesium through soaking. Epsom salt has long been used to relieve muscular aches and pains. Skin conditions such as dryness, eczema, and psoriasis can be eased through the regular use of Epsom salt. It helps the digestive system release toxins and supports the growth of digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas. Magnesium deficiencies are also linked to depression and other neuropathologies. Magnesium has been used as therapy for anxiety, irritability, insomnia, migraines, and chronic fatigue. It helps produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical in the brain that creates a feeling of calm and relaxation. Magnesium lowers the effects of adrenaline. Magnesium is also used in the regulation of more than 300 enzymes in the body. Deficiencies can also contribute to high blood pressure, hyperactivity, heart problems, and inflammatory conditions. It encourages the production of adenosine triphosphate, which increases energy and stamina. Sulfate found in Epsom salt is essential in flushing toxins and helps to form proteins found in joints and brain tissues. Epsom salt is believed to improve heart health by improving blood circulation, lowering blood pressure, and protecting the elasticity of arteries. Proper magnesium and sulfate increase the effectiveness of insulin in the body. Float in Epsom Salt? Absolutely! A float tank is an enclosed 8 x 4 x 4 structure in which 10 inches of water is added. Eight hundred pounds of pharmacygrade Epsom salt is dissolved into the body-temperature water. This amount of Epsom salt allows you to free float in an almost gravity-free environment. In addition to the benefit of the Epsom salt itself; you are also free to experience an indescribable level of

relaxation, free of outer stimulus, allowing the body’s innate healing process to function. Floating eases chronic pain of soft tissue conditions when done regularly. One is free to float in complete darkness and silence, or leave the door open and enjoy floating with audio music (or bring a CD) pumped into the tank. For one hour, your body gets to rest and heal while your brain pumps out dopamine and endorphins. Professional athletes use float tanks to improve performance, reduce injury, visualize success, increase relaxation, and enhance muscular recovery time. The health benefits of Epsom salt combined with a stress-free float, it makes good sense to schedule a regular “healthy timeout” for your overall well-being. An Epson salt float may be just the “reset button” you need for a more relaxed lifestyle. Float away your stress and muscle aches today!
