Significance

• Kerala is a pioneer in medical tourism in India • Revenue was over Rs.190 billion in 2011 • Growing at a rate of 13.31% year on year  • Provides employment to 1.2 million people • Preserves vanishing art and ancient monuments

 

Counterintuitive problems

• Unauthorized land purchase

• No common database for medical records • Localized access to medical records • No facility to track foreign exchange • Prevent spread of narcotics deals in the state

 

Ideas • Immigration centers to issue temporary UIDIA to Foreign Tourists • Validity of UIDIA on the basis of Visa • Medical records will be maintained on that UIDIA • Every person will be issued a Bank Account on its basis • Bank Account will be the single source of money • This account will facilitate all inter-country transactions • No cash will be carried out of India

 

 Advantages • Offering tourists better medical packages in future •  Allow access access of medical medical records anywhere anywhere in the world • Boost medical tourism in the state further  • Tracking foreign exchange through Bank Account • Check excess land purchase by foreign nationals • Help in decimating narcotics transactions • Incr Increa ease se th the e stat state’ e’s s econ econom omy y

 

Possible Challenges • Humungous task for immigration centers • Cost for creating UIDIA and Bank Account • Huge database required for medical history • Setting up ATM at tourist locations • Bank to have association with foreign national banks
