SUPERIOR COURT OF WASHINGTON
THURSTON COUNTY
STATE OF WASHINGTON,
Plaintiff, NO: 13-1-01447-9
vs.
DECLARATION OF PROSECUTOR
TYLER CURTIS LEWIS, SUPPORTING PROBABLE CAUSE
Defendant
CAILEN CECIL WEVODAU, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Thurston County, declares
the following in support of probable cause for charges in the above-entitled cause:
. I am a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Thurston County, Washington. I believe that there is
probable cause to believe that the above named defendant has committed the crime(s) of MURDER
IN THE FIRST DEGREE (DOMESTIC VIOLENCE) and ASSAULT IN THE FIRST DEGREE
WHILE ARMED WITH A DEADLY WEAPON(SCREWDRIVER) based on the following
information from the official investigative reports:
On September 23,2013, in Thurston County, Washington, patrol deputies responded to 914 Marvin Rd.
SE for the report of a suspicious circumstance. This incident was reported by a motorist that stopped at
the residence because of a dog wandering in and out of traffic. When the motorist approached the
residence she noticed a male lying on the ground near, what appeared to be a large pool of blood. The
motorist immediately dialed 911. Patrol deputies responded. When the deputies arrived, they
determined that the male was still alive. He was transported to the St. Peter's emergency room. The
male had a screw driver stabbed into the side of his neck. Investigating officers learned from a
neighbor that a vehicle belonging to Tyler Lewis had been in the male victim's driveway earlier in the
day.
While deputies were at the residence on Marvin Rd. NE, another 911 call was received from 4202
Foxhall Dr. NE. A man hadjust returned home and found his wife dead in the garage. The caller
reported that he believed his step-son, Tyler Lewis, was responsible for his wife's death. The man
reported that Tyler drove a brown Ford F-150, which was the same description of the vehicle from
Marvin Rd. SE.
Deputies did a hasty search of the residence on Foxhall Dr. NE and confirmed that there was only one
victim at that residence. Fire personnel that responded confirmed that the female victim in the garage
was dead. The victim was described as lying on the floor and also had a screw driver stabbed into the
side of her neck. Just as the search of the residence was being completed, Tyler arrived at the residence
in his brown Ford F-150. Tyler was detained and was advised of his constitutional rights and waived his
rights and agreed to speak with investigators.

At this point in the investigation an investigator had began to speak with Tyler and he agreed to talk
about the two incidences. Tyler explained that he had been to his mother's house on Foxhall Dr. NE.
Tyler explained that after a small argument with her there was a struggle and he "did what happened to
her." Tyler said that he also had gone to the Marvin Rd. SE residence, and spoke to the male victim
who was a friend. Tyler explained that he was being a "good friend" and helping him go to a better
place so that he would not be suffering any more. Tyler showed no emotion when he was told that the
victim on Marvin Rd. SE had not died and that the victim on Foxhall Dr. NE had died.
As ofyesterday afternoon, the male victim from Marvin Rd. SE suffered a severed spinal cord near the
"C-2" cervical spinal bone. 'The victim also had numerous of lacerations on his hands and head,
appearing to be wounds that were received in defense from his attacker. The male victim is currently
listed in critical condition. The male victim will never be able to breathe voluntarily and will only be
able to breathe with the assistance of a ventilation machine. The male victim will also never have any
function ofhis limbs lower than the injury site rendering him a quadriplegic.
Under penalty ofpeIjury under the laws ofthe State of Washington, I certifY that the foregoing
is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. Signed on September 24, 2013, in Olympia,
Washington.
