album.

Going Solo

Lauryn Hill’s first solo effort, The Miseducation of Lauryn

right. The album sold more than 12 million copies and
earned the singer-songwriter five Grammys, three American

After an extended hiatus, Hill returned in 2002 with MTV

2005, Hill performed two songs at the Take Back TV concert
launching Al Gore’s CurrentTV.
Hill tried her hand at acting at an early age, as well. When
she was just a high school sophomore (attending Columbia
High School in Maplewood, New Jersey), Hill landed a recurring role on the television soap opera As the World Turns.
Soon after, she earned a featured part in the popular film
Sister Act II: Back in the Habit, starring Whoopi Goldberg.
Instead of heading to Hollywood, in 1993, Hill enrolled at
Columbia University, where she studied for a year before
pursuing a performance career. That same year, the Fugees
released their first album, Blunted on Reality, which was met
with mixed reviews. Three years later, the group released a
hugely successful second project, The Score (1996). Featuring
the hit single “Killing Me Softly,” which highlighted Hill’s
bold and soulful vocals, the album sold 17 million copies—
making the Fugees the highest-selling rap group of all
time—and garnered two Grammy Awards (best rap album
and best R&B).

Other Projects and Personal Life
Outside of her performance career, Hill is a dedicated
activist. She founded an organization dedicated to serving
underprivileged urban youth called the Refugee Camp Youth
Project; the group raises money to send inner-city children
in Hill’s native New Jersey to summer camp.
Hill has five children with longtime boyfriend Rohan Marley,
the son of legendary reggae singer Bob Marley: Zion (born in
August 1997), Selah Louise (born in November 1998), Joshua
(born in January 2002), John (born in 2003) and Sarah (born
in January 2008). Hill also has a son from a later relationship,
Micah, who was born on July 23, 2011.

Recent News

* ENTERTAINMENT WITH LAURYN HILL*

In May 2013, a 37-year-old Hill made headlines when she was sentenced to three months in prison for not paying federal
taxes on approximately $1 million in earnings. The hip-hop singer had pleaded guilty to the tax-evasion charges in 2012.
“I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was
being denied that,” Hill said in a statement, following her sentencing.

What’s Next
Lauryn Hill became an immortal part of American musical history on March 25. The Library of Congress preserved her one
and only masterpiece, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, as an invaluable piece of American history. Announcing their choice,
the library deemed the 1998 album a “breakthrough recording that fuses soul, rhythm and blues, rap and reggae.” But it is so
much more.
Miseducation is one of the most serenely beautiful, passionate and honest hip-hop records ever recorded. Deeply personal,
masterfully arranged, it was the first hip-hop album to win album of the year at the Grammys. It helped define the culture
while introducing it to a much larger audience. It’s also the only solo studio record Hill has recorded. But since she has all
but disappeared. Rumors have swirled during her absence, but more recently she’s started producing new music again. Hill
is currently working on an album under contract with Sony Worldwide Entertainment. But after all she’s been through since
Miseducation, what we will hear may be a different Hill than the one we’re used to — a darker, more political songwriter.

SINGER SOPHIA BROWN

* ENTERTAINMENT *

INSPIRED TO WORK HARDER BECAUSE OF SUCCESS OF ADELE,
RIHANNA

Brown is set to embark on a US promotional tour in early March. The first stop is Yorkers, New York at the Venue, where she
will be backed by the Linkage Band. Prior to heading to the US, she is set to enthrall patrons at Mageritaville in Montego Bay
as part of the Reggae Month Celebrations in Jamaica.

Kingston: It is all about work, work, work for international reggae artist Sophia Brown who
drops her new single ‘So You Lie’ today, February 19th from her soon to be released album.
“In the past four years, this is the hardest I have worked on the promotion of a new single” the
singer said in a recent interview.
“2016 is the year of the ladies. Adele exploded globally in 2015 with a big album and a successful hit single ‘Hello.’ Rihanna is doing her thing in a big way with her new Platinum album
ANTI. These two females have inspired me to work harder with this new project” the singer
explained.
“To be honest, I can’t recall ever working so hard on a project. I have done interviews on all the
major radio platforms in Jamaica. I am also doing radio interviews all over the USA, Canada
and Europe. My street team is working overtime to get the new single in the hands of radio DJs
and sound system selectors across the island to ensure the success of the song. I thank God for
his blessings” she gushed.
‘So You Lie,’ which was written by Brown and Arnolique Kelly was produced by Akeem Bowen,
will be released on the Di General record label with international distribution being handled by
Zojak Worldwide.
“I am very excited about the new single because the message is resonating with men but more
so because the ladies can relate to being lied to” Brown said.
Speaking about the album, the singer indicated she has reached out to some of reggae’s finest
producers to assist the project.
“Clevie Brownie from Steelie & Clevie fame is on board. So too is Sly & Robbie and Hopeton
Lindo. I plan to produce one or two tracks which should be very interesting” she noted.

Health At Sunrise - Quick Tips From:

Dr. Rahsan Abdul Hakim
A LITTLE BITTER IS BETTER! A little bitter every day goes a very long way! It
goes through the mouth to stimulate digestive juices, cleans out mouth phlegm,
thrust, plaque, as well as mucus and bacteria in the throat. It goes through the blood
to clean out parasites, germs, sugar over-load; and curbs cravings for sweets-starches.
It goes through the stomach to clean out fermented, sour, food waste and mucus. It
goes through the lymphathic system to clean out congregated cell waste, and stimulates the immune system. It goes through the colon and cleans out petrified waste and
sluggish colon, regulating the bowels. Most of all it aides in good digestion and good
elimination; assist in regulating the glands and hormones; and stimulates sluggish
liver. It assists with cellular cleansing and prevents cell-erosion.
Eat at least one serving of green leafy vegetables a day; preferably home grown or organic: kale, mustard greens, collards, endive,
escarole, chard, bok choi, spinach, wild dandelion greens, yellow dock greens, sprouts, dandelion flowers (chop and garnish salads), watercress, chickweed leaves, chicory leaves, purslane, borage, sautéed prickly pear (cactus), artichoke leaves, wheat grass,
roasted chestnut; just to name a few. The following seasonings are beneficial: coriander, fennel, cardamom, caraway, dill, oregano, sage. The following herbs are beneficial: gentian, aloe, hops, dandelion root, wormwood, mauby bark, mugwort, quassia
wood. You can also try a slither of whole leaf aloe blended in a little lemon juice, mixed into one teacup of water, with a dash of
cayenne. Or, one to two ounces of Sundial Koromantee Bitters, about one hour after your last meal or prior to bedtime is extremely beneficial as a digestive aide.
It was a common practice amongst our ancient African Fore-Fathers, that everyone was given a little cup of bitter tea or tonic
about one hour after their meal, or they practiced chewing a (non-flavored) bitter stick or bitter bark after meals As you can see,
a little bitter is better, every day, and goes a long way in improving and maintaining your health.

Peace and Blessings.

Queen Anna Nzinga (circa 1581-1663) of Angola

A brief account of the life and times of one of the earliest recorded African warrior queen,
known for her resistance to the Portuguese in central Africa. Religion: converted to Christianity,
Names: Queen Nzinga; Dona Ana de Sousa; Ana de Souza; Zhinga; N’Zhinga; Njinja,
Jinga; Ngola Ana Nzinga Mbande, known for her strategic military tactics and political and diplomatic intelligence.
Queen Nzinga Mbande was a ruthless and powerful 17th century African ruler of the Ndongo and Matamba Kingdoms
(modern-day Angola). Nzinga fearlessly and cleverly fought for the freedom and stature of her kingdoms against the Portuguese, who were colonizing the area at the time.

Born as Princess Nzinga among the Mbundu (Ambundu) group of the Ndongo Kingdom in the central west Africa region
now known as Angola. Anna Nzinga was born the same year that the Ndongo people, led by her father, began fighting against
Portuguese who were raiding their territory for slaves and attempting to conquer territory they believed included silver mines.

Nzinga succeeded in this negotiation with the Portuguese governor, Correa de Souza, restoring her brother to power, and the
Portuguese agreed to limits on the slave trade. Around this time, Nzinga was baptized as a Christian, taking the name Dona
Anna de Souza.
In 1626 Nzinga became Queen of the Mbundu when her brother committed suicide (Other accounts claim Nzinga poisoned
her brother, or murdered her brother’s in order to seize power.) in the face of rising Portuguese demands for slave trade
concessions.
Nzinga, however, refused to allow them to control her nation. In 1627, after forming alliances with former rival states, she led
her army against the Portuguese, initiating a thirty-year war against them. She exploited European rivalry by forging an alliance with the Dutch who had conquered Luanda in 1641. With their help, Nzinga defeated a Portuguese army in 1647. When
the Dutch were in turn defeated by the Portuguese the following year and withdrew from Central Africa, Nzinga continued
her struggle against the Portuguese. Now in her 60s she still personally led troops in battle. She also orchestrated guerilla
attacks on the Portuguese which would continue long after her death and inspire the ultimately successful 20th Century armed
resistance against the Portuguese that resulted in independent Angola in 1975. Despite repeated attempts by the Portuguese
and their allies to capture or kill Queen Nzinga, she died peacefully in her eighties on December 17, 1663.

Her father was Ngola Kilajua, the word ‘Ngola’ referring to the title of the ruling chief, which later developed into the national
name for the region. Her mother reportedly had no blood ties to the royal family within the landed chieftain system. Nzinga
had one brother, Ngola Mbandi, and two sisters, Kifunji and Mukambu. Though she resisted Portuguese colonial occupation of
central west Africa for over four decades, she officially ruled Ndongo from 1624-1626 and 1657-1663.
When Anna Nzinga’s brother, Mbandi, deposed his father, he had Nzinga’s child murdered. She fled with her husband to
Matamba. Mbandi’s rule was cruel, unpopular, and chaotic. In 1633 he asked his sister Nzinga to return and negotiate a treaty
with the Portuguese. intelligence.
Nzinga mustered a royal impression as she approached the negotiations. The Portuguese arranged the meeting room with only
one chair, so Nzinga would have to stand, making her appear to be the inferior of the Portuguese governor. But she outsmarted
the Europeans, and had her maid kneel, making a chair -- and making quite an impression of power.

Nzinga Meeting with Portuguese Governor Joao Corria de Sousa, 1622. Queen Nzinga had her maid kneel, making a chair .

HYPERTENSION (High Blood Pressure)

By: DEANNA WILLIAMS, CRNA, MSN

Photojournalist

High blood pressure is a common condition in which the force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart
disease.
Blood pressure is determined by the amount of blood your heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow in your arteries. The more blood your heart pumps and the
narrower your arteries, the higher your blood pressure.
You can have high blood pressure (hypertension) for years without any symptoms. Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases your risk of serious health problems, including heart
attack and stroke.
High blood pressure typically develops over many years, and it affects nearly everyone eventually. Fortunately, high blood pressure can be easily detected.
And once you know you have high blood pressure, you can work with your doctor to control it.

Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80. When a person has a blood pressure reading between 120/80 and 139/89, this condition is called prehypertension. Stage 1 hypertension is defined as 140-159/90-99, and a blood pressure above those levels
is considered Stage 2 hypertension.
Some of the symptoms of hypertension can include:
-headaches
-being tired all the time
-blurred vision
-nosebleeds
-ringing in the ears
-chest pain
-irregular heartbeat
-feeling of confusion off and on
-heart failure
If you experience any of these signs and symptoms of hypertension, get to your doctor immediately. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
Preventing Hypertension
. Some ways to lower your blood pressure without the use of medication or in combination with medication are exercising more frequently and lowering your sodium and fat intake. You may also want to make your doctor aware of any family
history of hypertension as well as have them check your blood pressure regularly.

The man says that he cures
all diseases

Mr. Alfred Bowman aka Dr. Sebi, you are hereby charged with practicing medicine without a license, selling products not approved by the FDA (Federal Drug Administration) and claiming to cure Aids, and other diseases which is a fraudulent claim.”

Dr Sebi was told to bring 1 person for each of the diseases he claimed to court with proof from a reputable doctor that the

for all of this. To make a long story short, the judge after seeing the proof and speaking with Dr. Sebi turned to the states attorney and asked, “Did you investigate the man?” She said, “No” The judge then said, “well, the answer he just gave me, he cures
AIDS. You all are in trouble.” Dr. Sebi was then found NOT GUILTY on all charges by the state of New York and the supreme
court because he was indeed curing people of the various diseases, including AIDS. Dr. Sebi had cured 5 AIDS patients before
he put the Ad in the papers. The media asked Dr. Sebi, where are all the so called black leaders??? This is a historical moment!
A African American that is curing AIDS in America! Yet none of them have come out to celebrate your victory and make the
big announcement.
Dr Sebi was born Alfredo Bowman on November 26, 1933. He was born in Llanga which is located in the Honduras. When he Disease is a multi billion dollar industry, there’s money to be made in sickness. So why would anybody publicly announce
came to America he was diagnosed with asthma, diabetes, impotency, and obesity. He went to many doctors who could not rid that these diseases are being cured? Do you know how much money sickel cell centers collect each year?!! Cancer Research
him of these diseases. Finally he was told to see a herbalist in Mexico. He went and was cured of all his diseases. He learned a Centers?? Diabete Centers?? and the list goes on! The prescription companies pay the television shows salary. So of course your
lot about herbs, fruits, and vegetables. He learned that most of the vegetables people eat today aren’t even a product of natural not going to see this being announced on the television. Until today you the reader probably haven’t even heard of Dr. Sebi.
Now that you have, research this man, support this man, and spread the word! He has tried to spread his cures to the world
creation, they’re man invented. So he asked himself where should he start. Being that no one has actually took the time to
invest in the study and curing of the diseases in African Americans, he felt that was a great place to start. His journey led him and none of your major countries want to support him until recently. China has stepped up and givin him millions of dollars
into creating natural vegetation compounds that effect the body on a cellular level. He found that African Americans need to to create a bigger center and organic herbal, fruit and vegetable gardens needed for his continued research. Lets help stop the

makes a good point when explaing his reason for using compounds found in Africa. He said, if you were to take the polar bear
out of the north pole, you would have to feed him the diet that he had in the cold. You would not try to feed him the diet of
the gorilla. Just because something is labeled a animal (human) doesnt mean that what one animal (human) eats, has the same
nutritional benefits for all (humans) animals. Once he created his nutritional compounds he began sharing them with people
who had all sorts of diseases. He found that there is only 1 disease and that is the germ that is in your body causing dis ease.
Get rid of the germ and you become cured. Germs need to grow just like plants do. If you take away the soil then the plant
simply cannot grow and will die. He discovered that mucus is the soil that germs use to grow. So if you can get rid of the excess
mucus in your body then these dis eases have nowhere to grow so it is flushed out of the body. With this discovery he began
curing people with anything from Aids to Diabetes, even curing the blind! He started a healing center in a village in Laceiba,
Honduras called the URSHA Research Institute. It is there that he has cured many people, including a few celebrities. The
center has been there for over 30 years now and is known for curing diseases said to be incurable by modern medicine.
In 1985 Dr. Sebi placed an ad in The Amsterdam News, The New York Post, and The Village, the ad read…..
“Aids has been cured by the Usha Research Institute, and we specialize in cures for Sickle Cell, Lupus, Blindness, Herpes,
Cancer and others.”
The ad ran for 2 years before he was attacked by the Attorney General of New York. Dr. Sebi was told to remove the ad, when
he refused within days he was served with a arrest warrant. According to Dr. Sebi the Attorney General bragged that he was
going to “put Dr. Sebi under the jail!” The charges read to the jury was as follows..

“The Good Sam Cancer Institute has been a leader in cancer prevention and treatment within our community for decades,”
said CEO Mark Nosacka. “With the addition of the Cancer Genetics Program, we are expanding our services by allowing people to have the opportunity to determine whether they have a higher-than-average risk of cancer. This service will potentially
enable us to expand the number of people that can be helped at the Good Sam Cancer Institute and the Good Sam Breast
Institute.”
Before and after genetic testing, you may have a genetic counseling session, where a member of the program’s specially trained
staff will help explain your results and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Additionally, Good Samaritan’s pastoral care team can help you cope psychologically with the results of your genetic testing, and the hospital’s nutrition team is
available to help maintain your nutritional well-being to reduce the risk of recurrence.
During your initial evaluation period, you will fill out a questionnaire, which includes questions regarding your personal and
family history of cancer. The next step is genetic testing, which consists of a simple mouthwash or blood test. Analysis of the
sample can determine if you inherited a gene mutation that may increase your cancer risk. However, it is important to remember that testing positive for a gene mutation is not a guarantee of developing cancer.

Nigeria: Obasanjo Blames African Leaders for Continent’s Conflicts
Some of Africa’s leaders are responsible for the instability on the continent because they failed to manage diversity in their
societies, former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has said.

Nigeria: U.S., UK Knew Whereabouts of Chibok Girls - Ex-UK Envoy
By Raliat Ahmed-Yusuf
The former British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Andrew Pocock, has disclosed that the United States and the United
Kingdom knew the whereabouts of about 80 of abducted Chibok girls by Boko Haram but failed to launch a rescue mission.
Pocock further claimed that a large group of the missing girls were spotted by the UK and the US surveillance officials shortly
after their disappearance but experts felt nothing could be done.
The former UK envoy, who stated this during an interview with The Sunday Times of London, added that Western governments felt “powerless” to help as any rescue attempt would have been too risky with Boko Haram terrorists using the girls as
human shields.

Pocock said: “A couple of months after the kidnapping, fly-bys and an American eye in the sky spotted a group of up to 80
Similarly, he noted that outside interference in Africa had been responsible for conflicts, citing the NATO air strikes in Libya in girls in a particular spot in the Sambisa forest, around a very large tree, called locally the Tree of Life, along with evidence of
2011 that led to the removal from power of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
vehicular movement and a large encampment.”
“The repercussions are now being felt in Mali, Nigeria and the Sahel,” Obasanjo told a press conference on the upcoming Tana
High-Level forum on Security in Africa, in Ethiopia.

According to Pocock, the Chibok girls were there for at least four weeks but authorities were ‘powerless’ to intervene, saying
however that the federal government (under former President Goodluck Jonathan) did not ask for help.

Asked whether African leaders were to blame for the conflicts on the continent, he said “yes and no.”

He said: “A land-based attack would have been seen coming miles away and the girls killed, an air-based rescue, such as flying
in helicopters or Hercules, would have required large numbers and meant a significant risk to the rescuers and even more so to
the girls.”

He said leaders were failing their people because they had not been able to prevent marginalisation in their societies, prevent
injustice, reduce unemployment, reduce poverty, adding that they had not embraced democracy and good governance.
The theme of this year’s Forum is Africa in the Global Security Agenda.

In an investigation by Christina Lamb for the Sunday Times Magazine, Pocock said the information was passed to the Nigerians but they made no request for help.
A former canon at Coventy Cathedral, Dr. Stephen Davis, who has spent several years attempting to negotiate with the terror
group, said Boko Haram “makes ISIS look like playtime” and said it is “beyond belief” that the authorities both in Nigeria and
the West do not know where the schoolgirls are.
Davis insists the locations of the camps where the girls are being kept are well known and can even be seen on Google maps.
He added: “How many girls have to be raped and abducted before the West will do anything?”
Boko Haram members had stormed the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Chibok in Borno State on April 14, 2014
and seized about 276 girls, who were preparing for end-of-year examination.
Although 57 of the girls managed to escape, the rest have remained missing and have not been heard from or seen since apart
from in May that year, when 130 of them appeared in a Boko Haram video wearing hijabs and reciting the Koran.

Marriage Rules and Regulations
A typical macho man married typical good-looking lady and after the wedding, he laid down the following rules:
“I’ll be home when I want, if I want and at what time I want-and I don’t expect any hassle from you. I expect a great dinner to
be on the table unless I tell you that I won’t be home for dinner. I’ll go hunting, fishing, boozing and card-playing when I want
with my old buddies and don’t you give me a hard time about it. Those are my rules. Any comments?”
His new bride said, “No, that’s fine with me. Just understand that there will be sex here at seven o’clock every night, whether

Lawyer and Jamaican man on airplane
A lawyer and a Jamaican are sitting next to each other on a long flight.
The lawyer is thinking that Jamaicans are so dumb that he can fool them easy...
So the lawyer asks if the Jamaican would like to play a fun game.
The Jamaican is tired and just wants to take a nap, so he politely declines and tries to catch a few winks. The lawyer persists and
says that the game is a lot of fun.
‘I ask you a question, and if you don’t know the answer, you pay me only $5; You ask me one, and if I don’t know the answer, I
will pay you $500..’
This catches the Jamaican’s attention and to keep the lawyer quiet, he agrees to play the game.
The lawyer asks the first question.
‘What’s the distance from The Earth to the moon?’
The Jamaican doesn’t say a word, reaches in his pocket pulls out a five-dollar bill, and hands it to the lawyer.
Now, it’s the Jamaican’s turn.
He asks the lawyer, ‘What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?’
The lawyer uses his laptop, searches all the references he knows.
He uses the air-phone; he searches the Net and even the Library of Congress.
He sends e-mails to all the smart friends he knows, all to no avail.
After one hour of searching, he finally gives up.
He wakes up the Jamaican and hands him $500.
The Jamaican pockets the $500 goes right back to sleep.
The lawyer is going nuts not knowing the answer.
He wakes the Jamaican up and asks, ‘Well, so what goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four?’
The Jamaican reaches in his pocket, hands the lawyer $5 and goes back to sleep.

Hungry and Broke
There were three men living together in London. An Afro-American, a West Indian and a Nigerian. They were all starving because they didn’t have money to buy food.
However upon coming close to a posh London restaurant in this classy neighbourhood, they decided to come up with a plan.
The Afro-American went in first. After being seated, he ordered a three course meal with white wine. When he had finished the meal, the waiter came by with the bill. “LISTEN MY MAN, I ALREADY PAID YOU!” - the Afro-American shouted! The waiter
was very confused because he could not remember being paid. But because he did not want to cause any trouble, he let the brother leave.
Five minutes later, the West Indian walked into the same restaurant and ordered a five course meal with red wine. When he was finished eating, the waiter came by to collect the money for the food. “HEY, HEY, LOOK AT ME CROSSES. BUT AH PAID YOU
ALREADY!” - the West Indian shouted. This time the manager came and had to calm down the West Indian, because he did not want anything to upset the other customers. He let the guy go.
Ten minutes later, the Nigerian walked in. And you know how we are. He sat down. Lit up a cigarette, and ordered the most expensive meal on the menu, plus two bottles of Beer. After he had finished, the waiter came to collect the money for the meal, But
before the Nigerian could say anything, the waiter spoke to him.”Sir, I have been having all sorts of problems all day and I can’t understand it. Two other people like you came in earlier and ate, and they say that they paid me but I don’t remember getting any
money from them so, “ Before he could finish, the Nigerian interrupted, rather emphatically, “OGA I SORRY FOR YOU OOOO. BUT DAT NA YOUR PROBLEM. I JUST WANT YOU TO GIVE ME MY CHANGE!!”
