An Online College Chemistry Course Isn’t As Strange As It Sounds
By: Selena Garcia Website: Online College Degree Info.Org

At first glance, it might seem that an online college chemistry course would be nothing more than a dream. After all, the study of chemistry has long been based on the constant repetition of predetermined experiments. These are conducted in a classroom laboratory, under controlled conditions. Since it isn’t really possible to recreate these conditions elsewhere, nor is it safe to do so, it might be assumed that one doesn’t have any distance learning opportunities when it comes to chemistry.

However, that’s not true. If a course is being offered as part of a hybrid solution, with part of it still being conducted in the classroom, than all prerequisite lab work can still take place in controlled conditions. All of the necessary theoretical work can be easily handled on a computer system from the remote location.

On the other hand, a full online class can either simulate laboratory work through a computer program, or replace it with a comparable sort of conceptual lesson. While some Professors may argue that a simulated experience doesn’t completely work as well as the real thing, it does have the secondary advantage of also being safer than attempting to conduct a real chemical reaction.

Once again, though, any proper study of the sciences should include a great deal of theoretical and conceptual work. This is where an online college chemistry course shines, since students can work at their own pace, and the lecture aspects

of the course work very well online. General online college chemistry course programs, that fulfill all requirements online, are particularly useful for general education requirements in unrelated degrees.

For instance, a history or art major might be able to complete their Chemistry requirement without stepping into the laboratory. At the same time, though, they will still receive quality instruction and not end up loosing out on what other students might receive.
