Position: News Editor Where: Metro Atlanta When: December 2010—Present

Launched a news website covering the western part of Cobb County, Georgia, including the incorporated city of Powder Springs: www.westcobb.patch.com. (My welcome/launch video: tinyurl.com/8YMQAZC) Make seven posts, including one centerpiece, each weekday; ensure site is constantly refreshed with quality content, which is as simple as a job posting or as profound as a four-part enterprise or feature piece. Site includes comprehensive business directory, events calendar, blogs, announcements and much more. Consistently exceed goals in various metrics; received company-wide recognition for election coverage. Report on city government that before had never received regular coverage; often beat other area media. Recruited and manage a team of paid freelancers and unpaid bloggers; have region’s largest blogger output. Gained and interact with a large social media following; organize and participate in marketing events to promote the site, as well as company as a whole; hold monthly office hours for readers.

Among team of roughly 30 experienced reporters, received large amount of A1 placement for breaking and hard news, feature stories, and enterprise and investigative reporting. Topics included local, state and federal politics, environment, crime, courts, business, education, health, fitness, military, travel, weather and much more; also had several photos published with stories.

Gained experience and clips that would lead to being selected to Chattanooga internship. Received $1,500 scholarship for in-depth investigative piece on decline of recording industry and, in turn, relevance of MTSU’s internationally known recording industry program.

Wrote a 78,000-word political thriller, centered around education reform, called Bursting the Bubble (still querying). Assist Southern States Rottweiler Rescue, the largest Rottweiler rescue in the country, in saving almost 100 of the dogs annually. Workplaces before graduation included a restaurant, grocery stores, student housing, a gym and a turnkey business. Hobbies include reading, writing, chess, billiards, guitar, swimming, fitness, painting and cooking.
