There were 2 sections 1.Technical 2.Aptitude. technical was a bit difficult than apti. in technical there were mainly questions on Datastructures, OS and Networks . networks questions were mainly from datalink layer and network layer. DS questions were on linkedlists,binary trees and hashing. OS questions were on paging and schduling. in apti they have asked to arrange sentences in order, questions based on passage and some direct apti. some ques i have in mind are, i am giving answers after the question itself: 1. what is the size of IPv6 ---16 bytes 2.how many possible trees are there such that both preorder and postorder traversal are same if there are n nodes in a binary tree ---0 3. four ques were given on error detection and control, like CRC code,hamming code etc.. 4.which protocol is used to convert the ethernet address to IP address --- RARP 5.which is undeterminnistic network structure among 802.3,802.4,802.5 --802.4 6. some nodes were given and they are inserted into a binary search tree, which is the root --- 8 7. which of the two codes executes fast for(i=0;i<100;i++) for(j=0;i<100;j++) a[i][j]=0; for(i=0;i<100;i++) for(j=0;j<100;j++) a[j][i]=0 ans: first code 8. int j=3;

int *p=&j; printf("%d %d", *p++,++*p); it will not increment j value as ++ is done first on p before *, so address gets incremented and garbage value will be there. 9. two questions were asked on doubly linked lists, for deleting a node like given some piece of code which is correct. 10. a question on interrupts in OS, what happens when a higher priority process requests the CPU when it is servicing a lower priority process. 11. a question on quick sort, given some numbers what happens after the first iteration.

SAMSUNG PAPER ON 10TH MAY,2008 TECH Minimum CG required;7+(CSE/ECE/EIE/ELE) package-4.4 Written test was aptitude of 50 questions in 60 minutes .. Cut off was nearly 46-48 answers ..Out of 160/175 students 35 selected for interview This was my technical interview---tell me about your self... i told everything from cg to marks in 10th +2 etc.. i told my favourite subject is OS.. (It was a mistake to say OS which i later realised that only gave me my dream job) As they people work in embedded systems... He started asking me qns from core OS device areas which i never read... qns>>>//I HAVE ONLY WRITTEN A PART OF ANSWERS WHAT I HAD TOLD I MAY CONTAIN SOME WRONG ANSWERS TOO 1)How oS does memory management??? I answered it perfectly...with every limit registers.. paging etc... That interviewer was watching closely to my hands as was explaining the memory register concepts.... 2)OS structure of Linux..(he asked me something like that i don't remember exactly). sir i don't know.... 3)Tell me about paging...(he gave me a paper to explain) I answered it perfectly...with paging diagram and i explained that to him...i told him everything about Logical address to physical add...Then i could not recall the name of TLB so i told him in a lay man manner abut TLB... 4)what is Logical addres and Physical address... perfetcly answerd.... 5)Then he asked something on OS ...which i listened for 1st time... I told him sir i am listening this word for 1st time...and we have been taught basics of os not so much in deeper details..

6)What is virtual memory... i told him our memory in constrained to work with in 512mb/1 gb etc... By virtual memory concept we extend our main memory to infinity..and explained other things..it is achieved by paging and segmentatin.... 7)Then he asked me is it infinity??? i was also not sure ..i told him its not infinity its something like 2 to the power 32 or 16 like that depending on word length of bus.. 8)Then he asked me about demand paging.. i answered perfectly... 9)What happens when u switch on ur computer... I told him microprocessor sends signal to bios...etc etc.. Bios is a eprom which does POST...Then bios which knows whr os module is found and has a jump instuction which jumps to the location whr we can procedd furher like.....LILO or BOOT LOADER location which is noramally 1st sector of hard disk.. I do'nt know if i was copmetely right or now but i was almost 90% right.. Then he cross questioned me which drive??? Then i clarified that which ever boot priority will be thr in bios that willbe chaecked sequentially let it be hard dick or floopy disk or cd...then that will jump thr from whr it will take to posn from hich os will be loaed in memory and computer wil start.. 10)he asked me something on miscroprocessor.... Sir.do'nt know.. 11) another qn on microprocessor sir ,do'nt know... Then i told him that sir i read microprocessor in 4th sem ..i do'nt remember anything 12)again another qn on microprocessor he asked me do u rememebr protected.public.something like that from microprocessor.etcc etc i told no sir.. 13)Then he asked m what happens when u double click on a icon on desktop... I was not knowing this answer but somehow i pulled it..i told him from cheking user permission to loading module by os in memory thenvthen granting user permission to execute in that area...etc etc... 14)what is user area what is kernel area 15)how to jump from user area to kernel area??? i told sir i do'nt know...so many do'nt know by this time i thaught i do'nt have any chance as he ws asking me device level qns 16)Then finally he came to c/c++ he asked me for choice c or c++ i told him c //do'nt look syntax errors 17)main() { int arr[10]; fn(arr); } fn(int a[10]) { int b= sizeof(a); b=????

} i told him b is equal to size of pointer which will vary in tc++ and linux.. then he asked me why and how??? i told him its acting like a array in fn but its a pointer...I was not sure of this answer at that time but i was right 18)main() { int arr[10]; int b=sizeof(arr); b=??? } i told him 10* sizeof(int) int=2,4 bytes dependingon tc or linux.... 19)then he told me to write a pointer to fn taking a int as argument and returing a int int (*P)(int); 20)how to call a fn using ptr; let fn is display(); p=display; p();//i was wrong here it sd be (*p)(); 21)what is fn overloading ad fn over riding 22)what is copy constuctor... perfectly answered 23)what is use of copy constucor when we use it.. i tried to bluff but finally i told sir i don't know... 24)Write a prog to multiply 2 nos without using * and + operator he gave me a hint that u can use bit shift op.I was knowing that i can'nt solve it with in 5 min...still i tried to solve to show him that i am solving....after 2 min he asked me ok tell me what is logic...I told him sir i am trying to find the logging by looking after the relation between 2*3=6 and 3*5=15 and there biany forms.. he said ok.after 2 min he said ok leave it.I thought i am gone he looked unhappy... 25)how u can return value to a fn if 1 value use return statement.if multiple value return indirectly bu using pointers AGAIN HE CAME BACK TO OS DRIVER LEVEL 26)he asked me some file name asked me what is that.. i said i do'nt know... 27)what is device driver and how it works??? i expalined it to him in a beautiful manner by showing gestures...i think by this answer he was impressed... 28)have u ever worked in linux... i said yes sir but very less... Then he asked me draw the file hierarchy directory structue of linux... i answered it perfectly... 29)what is fn of /proc directory... i told him sir i am not sure but i think it contain files which are required to run our Os processes...i was right?/ 30)then he asked me some file name and its fn i said i don't know... 31)have u ever done any device driver programms no sir.... In between he had asked me some device driver and hardware level qns which i had listened for first time so i don't remember also i answered them negatively...

over all OS/DRIVER LEVEL qns:asked--nearly 23-28 answered---nearly 15 to 18 C/C++ qns--asked--8-10 answered--8-9 microprocessor;--asked-3 answered--0 IN TOTAL :-QNs asked 35-40 qns ANSWERED-23-26 qns last qn:-do u have any qn to ask i said no sir... then he said me why?/ do'nt u want to join samsung Then i told yes sir i want ot join samsung ..-----becoz...---explained----By the time i came out of tech interview i thaught that my tech was very bad as i told so many do'nt know answers.But nearly every candidate performed like that becoz he was asking driver level and core os level qns which are not taught normally to btech students
