Data Explosion in Database Applications
Over time large enterprise applications such as CRM, ERP and corporate financials accumulate large amounts of data, including a growing number of records of older transactions and historical information that are no longer used. This historical data, which may go back several years, becomes an anchor, using up an increasing amount of system resources, eventually requiring expensive upgrades to both the storage and the server running the application while dragging performance down. But because of the difficulty of identifying and removing this old data, and the need to preserve it for compliance audits and other business uses, many companies never purge their production databases. Solix EDMS Database Archiving is a key module in the Solix Enterprise Data Management Suite (EDMS). It provides data classification to identify scarcely accessed data that can be moved to an active archive. It also provides the ability to access this data in the active archive online from the native application. Should there be a need to update read-only data in the active archive, Solix EDMS Database Archiving gives you a de-archiving feature. For the most historical data with in the active archive that needs to be retained only for compliance reasons, the Solix EDMS Grand Archive feature allows such data to be moved to a user-defined archiving destination, such as the massively compressed Solix Secure Archive, File formats such as XML/CSV/PDF.
