THE COUNTRY MOUSE AND THE CITY MOUSE

Narrator: Once upon a time there was a little mouse who lived in the country. She invited her cousin who lived in the city to visit her. The city mouse went to the country mouse’s house. The country mouse opened the door and said, Country Mouse: (opening the door ) How are you, dear cousin? !m glad that you came all the way "rom the city to visit me. #ow you will see how live in the country. How was your trip? $nd then the city mouse replied, City Mouse: Oh the trip was not so %ad, %ut am hungry and thirsty. Narrator: The &ountry 'ouse prepared meal "or the &ity 'ouse. However, the city mouse was so disappointed with the meal which was nothing more than a "ew (ernels o" corn and a couple o" dried %erries. So, she as(ed the country mouse a%out those "oods, City Mouse: )hat!s this? Country Mouse: Those are (ernels o" corn and a couple o" dried %erries. *mm. +ummy, -ut, the city mouse "elt very disgusted. So, she pretended to eat those "oods. City Mouse: *ww will eat .ust a little. am not that hungry a"ter all. Narrator: The country mouse ate until "ull, %ut the city mouse only ni%%led at the "ood. The &ity 'ouse did not li(e the way the &ountry 'ouse lived and want to invite her to the city. So, she told a%out her uneasy "eeling. City Mouse: Honestly, my dear cousin, don!t li(e the way you live. #o wonder you are so s(inny, $re you eating this (ind o" "ood %ecause you are on a diet? Country Mouse: There!s nothing wrong with my "ood, $nd, no, am not on diet. grow my own "resh "ood in the garden. City Mouse: #o, don!t get mad at me, %ut would li(e you to come with me to the city "or a "ew days to show you my way o" li"e. have all sorts o" "ine "ood to eat every day. am sure you will %e delighted. Country Mouse: O(ay, we!ll leave as soon as "inish pac(ing. Narrator: "inally, the country mouse agreed to come to the city. The country mouse went to the city with her cousin. $"ter they reached there, the city mouse welcomed her cousin.

City Mouse: )elcome to my house. &ome, !ll show you the dining room. Narrator: -oth went into the dining room. The country mouse could not %elieve his eyes. He had never seen so much "ood in one place. There was %read, cheese, "ruit, cereals, and grains o" all sorts scattered a%out in a warm co/y portion o" the alley. $"ter they entered the dining room, the country mouse was 0uite surprised with the mess. So, the city mouse e1plained to her, City Mouse: Sorry "or the mess. There was a dinner party last night and they haven !t cleaned. -ut, don!t stand there, go to the ta%le and eat whatever you want to. The country mouse stared at those delicious "oods. She was really impressed with the city mouse li"estyle. She decided to stay there with her cousin. So, she as(ed her cousin, Country Mouse: Hey, &an stay with you? )ow, This is the real li"e, Narrator: Suddenly the door opened and some people entered. The &ity 'ouse immediately gra%%ed her cousin hand and as(ed her to hide under the cup%oard. She immediately said, City Mouse: &ome, run, let!s hide, The country mouse ran %ehind the city mouse and as(ed while trem%ling with "ear. Country Mouse: )hat!s going on? $nd then the city mouse told her cousin, City Mouse: t!s the coo( and his assistant. )e have to stay here until they leave. Narrator: )hen the people le"t the dining room, the &ity 'ouse as(ed her cousin to go out and en.oyed the "oods.

City Mouse: &ome, it!s time to go out. -ut the country mouse re"used, Country Mouse: #o. am still sha(ing, City Mouse: That was nothing. &ome we haven!t "inish eating.

Narrator: However, as they were getting ready to go up to the ta%le, the door opened once again and they had to scuttle away 0uic(ly. They were very shoc(ed and shouted loudly.

City Mouse: Oh no, it!s that "ierce cat,

Country Mouse: Huh, 2ierce cat? )hy? City Mouse: )ell, don!t (now how to e1plain it to you, %ut the minute he saw you, you’re history, Country Mouse: +ou mean3 that will3. City Mouse: +es, dear, that!s what mean. The country mouse loo(ed sad. Country Mouse: )ell3 thin( had enough. The city mouse tried to persuade her cousin to stay there. City Mouse: )ell, we can (eep eating tomorrow, i" right now your stomach can!t handle any more "ood. -ut, the country mouse still re"used %ecause she "elt very tired and unsecured. Country Mouse: That!s not what was tal(ing a%out. mean that had enough o" all o" this running and .umping, and "eeling "rightened and scared, and sha(ing3 This is not what want. Narrator: 2inally, the &ountry 'ouse decided to went %ac( home as she "elt her li"e in the city was very aw"ul, and stayed there "or the rest o" her li"e.
