Katniss- she wears jeans with a leather jacket with
black boots(anti-stereotype); She has a boyfriend;
She protects her sister when she is picked; She is
protective; She is a fighter; She hunts; She is brave;
She is stubborn. She looks after her sister even if it
means she could die-risking her life. This is an antistereotype. She is caring towards her siblings. This is
anti-stereotypical (teens don’t really care for their
siblings) and stereotypical (some teens look after
their siblings). She is rebellious- she hunts, and
volunteers. (This is stereotypical because teenagers
are rebellious). Rebelling for survival. Hunting for
food. (Caring) this suggests that her family is
potentially poor. She has resumed a role of
responsibility. This is anti-stereotypical. The
comforter of primrose. She likes to go outdoors;
hunting- violent. This is anti-stereotypical. When she
goes to the capital she is wearing a red dress. Red
symbolises confidence, blood, danger, and love. She
is trying to make a good impression. Red is linked to
prostitution. This is anti-stereotypical. She is
inspirational, as she puts others before herself. This
is anti-stereotypical. She is very negative during the
time she has in the capital. She says that only one
person comes out of the hunger games. She is a
realist; she talks realistically and thinks realistically.
When gale says that they could run away together,
she says that they could not make it 5 miles without
being caught. She has a love interest with gale.
Katniss has masculine characteristics, and gale has
feminine characteristics. Gale is an optimist. He is
romantic. Whereas Katniss takes on the
stereotypical male role in their relationship. “Make
sure they remember you”- stereotype of teen as
they want to be valued, special, and unique. She is
an icon/symbol when she 3 fingered solute, adults
have here as an icon. This isn’t stereotypical of
teenagers.
Gale- He is shown a being feminine in the
relationship with Katniss. He is an optimist as he
thinks that Katniss can win and survive the hunger
games. This isn’t stereotypical. He is tall and built
well. This is stereotypical. He is supportive towards
Katniss. When he takes primrose away from Katniss
when she nominates. He is shown as being a father
figure towards Primrose .he is a hero for primrose.
He also protects Katniss. He is very protective. This
isn’t stereotypical.
Peeta-he is shown as being almost pathetic
compared to Katniss. He I first presented as being

Primrose- she is shown as being scared and
worried. This isn’t stereotypical of teenagers.
She needs to be comforted by her sister
throughout the time in the clip that we see her.
She is innocent, she always relies on Katniss.
She is small blonde and weedy. Her hair is in pig
tail plats. She looks very young. Almost a child.
She is given lots of childlike characteristics. She
is compared to Katniss throughout the film. She
is the princess in this film as Katniss saves her.
Katniss is her idol. Katniss and primrose are
binary opposites.

Groups of teenagers- The groups of teenagers
that you first see are all huddled together and
nervous. The next time you see the teenagers
they are violent and aggressive because they
are in the hunger games. This is less
stereotypical at the beginning but more
stereotypical at the end of the trailer. They act
like a pack (pack mentality) this is stereotypical.
The sheep element and the violence maniac
element. They fight it out in the hunger games
to find the top of the pack. This is stereotypical.
Adults (binary opposition) - the adults you see
in the trailer are presented as being controlling,

scared and disturbed when he is chosen at the
reaping. This isn’t stereotypical of male teens. He
isn’t as strong willed as Katniss. He is also rebellious
as he wants to die as himself instead of being
controlled. He is portrayed as being small height and
build. He could lack intelligence from the stereotype
of blonde haired people being dumb. He is not the
hero; he is styled as being a sidekick. He is creative
and good at painting, not very masculine. Later on in
the film he is stronger than we realised.

calm, shocked and optimistic. The first adult we
see is wearing a dress with lots of makeup. The
next are mainly male, and they typically are
depressed when they talk and act. They are
shocked at teenager’s behaviour. This is
stereotypical. The woman in the start is
patronising. This is stereotypical for adult’s
reactions to teens.
