It does this in a variety of ways: restricting supply through licensing and patents, boosting demand by lowering the apparent price of services, promoting third-party payment for even expected routine services, raising drug-research expenses, imposing coverage mandates on insurers, forbidding interstate competition in insurance

GB not all that awesome: -stats of GB heart disease, cancer death (should equal that off US) -some illnesses cannot be treated any furthur -foot story -words of British guy -france need kids, -ayn rand from Russia experienced HANNAN: I mean, the thing that you may find hard to believe is that you go along and you say, I need a hip replacement. Or you, know, I need treatment for prostate cancer. And they will say, thank you, the queue is over there. We'll see you in October of next year or whatever it is. I mean, it's unbelievable. People are left in pain in pain, in positions where they can't work, where they're losing income at the back of the queue, waiting for permission to get treatment. And there's nothing you can do about it.

We have a system where the most salient facts of it are you get huge waiting lists, you have bad survival rates, you much farther fall ill in the US than in the UK, you know, if you get cancer, if you get heart

disease, you get stroke. Five years on, the chances are here you are going to be healthy. In the UK, you’re not. Why do we stick to it in the UK? Because there is such a huge vested interest. There are so many people now who depend on it.

“The figure, in a paper published by the Taxpayers' Alliance, is calculated using data given to the World Health Organisation. It compares the number of people who died prematurely, even though their illness was treatable, in five European countries.”
Problems with gov’t inverventin -postal, fire dep -fire insu possible

-National Fire Protection Association: 72% volunteer firefighters -70% departments volunteer -17% mostly volunteer
-postal office indebt, no need to depend on it because there are companies like Fedex and UPS -private schools work fine (research how they score higher than public schools) -gyms and supermarkets are for profit -inadequ Katrina

deliver water to New Orleans after Katrina.
-forced teen vaccine - Swine flu vaccine:

billions, shortages, distr lousy, forcing people to take in Ny

- Shortages..if free but don’t have..no matter

One size fits all plan States can experimente (50 experiments at once) If notice working , will adopt Certain people of certain states don’t like thinking that they’re paying for illegal immigrants or lazy, fat, -deborah opinion Yes, there are people who are willing to pay for their neighbor BUT there are also those unwilling to pay $200,000 for their neighbor’s operation
-disregards doctors interested in holistic medicine -will allow phar comp to control entire system to make it Seem like their drugs are the only available treatments

Why US environment + culture different from other countries’ -stats of sedentary, obesity, smoking, addictive personality, How much in the UK is spent on treating the obese? Plastic surgery? Sexually transmitted diseases?

Hypochondriacs seeking attention? (who seek few days of relief from common cold) People who don't want to endure a little pain? Organ transplants? Power Chairs? Drunkards and dope addicts? Smokers? High tech diagnostic equipment?  us more prone to death (murders, car accidents) corresponding trends of - smoking + lung cancer -addictive pain meds -sleeping around + STDs Providing an incredibly expensive ($25,000+/year)cocktail of maintenance drugs to extend the lives of terminal AIDS (a volitional condition) patients? Someone offered my doctor professor..could have been paid over $200,000 Pain meds

Current system problems and uni faults - Who gets to decide whats frivolous and what is not? -medicaid deals with about half of all medical expenses for a minority of the population -makes sense if universal would lead to even more expenses - I have grandma with all these pills. She used to drink about 15 pills per day. She only
drinks two now. My aunt and I once asked my grandma if the pills are helping at all. She can’t tell a difference. Either incompetent doctors who desire the free vacatino to Alaska by prescribing medicine or … My cousin’s aunt makes over $300,000 by simply owning a pharmacy. My own aunt saids that my cousin’s aunt has a great strategy because people are covered by Medicare + Medicaid

-interviews - Lan Tran: if govt pay for healthcare, then no one will want work
-dentist charged almost the maximum price insurance company per year -she was angry

--less new drugs: why bother -rationing like I’ve heard teacher pays 1 cent for every paper she prints (tennesee) -ways gov’t make costs high

Explaining free market:
-people with higher deducticles take more yearly visits (taking care of themselves) -they understand they need to keep themselves healthy in order to spend less money

-so..those who choose to risk not taking care of themselves or go to the doctor will be risking their own lives -resources for rating doctors + hospitals -doctor not threatened by competitor -people need to ask how much cost?

-profit encourages the production of the goods and services most needed at that time - The core remains-when someone else spends YOUR money they do not care about the cost. When you do not have a choice between buying and not buying, the competition between the companies, as well as the competition between industries, disappears and it also drives the cost up. The government is basically choosing to subsidize and mandate the inefficient system Subsidizing = encouraging
First, heart attacks are extreme situations, emergency situations that can probably be taken care of by some form of catastropic insurance,in the way that we buy fire insurance on the off chance that we have a fire. The vast majority of our healthcare needs to be paid for out of pocket to create an incentive for the healthcare consumer to care about what hc cost so that the healthcare providers care about cost. most health care is'nt emergency care, but is care that can be provided with the time allowed to make choices

-

Doctors don’t need to take insurance -no hire , save time, keep prices low Works with them, find ways to save money
(family doctor in tennesse) *dr. berry’s patmos emergiclinic -start with generic first (may be just as good) -doctors post prices Consumers make decisions!

Why Certain Changes:

-let insurance companies sell their policies across state lines Inventions of life-saving drugs, equipment, and techniques - What's great about hsa's is it encourages people to be cost conscience for the smaller costs for healthcare and save for future costs. Ultimately it helps keep healthcare in this country sustainable because it includes individual responsibility - we're all dependent on Americans being responsible.

Some supporters of universal health care would claim that having Insurance companies should be able to sell their polices across state lines in order to

Arguing for free healthcare is like arguing for free organic food or free gym membership. Plus, organic food and gym membership probably will cost less and do more for the United States.
