If required, you may be asked to give a presentation to an Evaluation Panel You will be contacted if are successful.

When can I apply? We welcome your application any time during the fund’s life span. However, funding decisions will only be made every quarter.

What is the maximum amount I can apply? There is no maximum or minimum amount set for each application. Dana Belia 1Malaysia is looking for the best of ideas. However, to help us evaluate your budgetary requirements better, please justify why you are seeking that amount. You should include a cost-benefit analysis and strong rationale for your request.

To what extent should the funds be justified? The amount requested should be justified into clearly identifiable parts such as how much is allocated for equipment, rent, food, salary, etc. It is important that applicants give enough details to give us an understanding of whether the amount requested is reasonable.

What is Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA)? Cost- benefit analysis is a detailed breakdown on how money will be spent and the benefits gained within an amount of time. Its purpose is to evaluate whether the benefits of the project are more than the money spent. At the very least, the total cost breakdown incurred in the project and the benefits realised from implementing the project, should be presented. We are looking for projects that involve youths to take action and make their impact to the community. We also want to support projects that are good value for money.

How long will my application take? Applicants are advised to submit proposals as soon as possible as there are many stages of review to go through before we make the final decisions. The review period will also be stretched depending on the number of proposals we receive. Funding decisions will be made every three months. In the case that the decisions will be announced earlier, we will post an update via Facebook and Twitter. You can check the status of your application by logging in to the 1MDB website as we will be updating the website once the decisions are made.

If I am accepted, do I need to pay back the amount given to my project? No, you don’t. However, one of the main criteria we are looking for is that your project should have a high spill-over benefit. It should bring about strong positive changes to the community, and it should benefit a large number of people. The amout given may be in several tranches or in one lumpsum. This is based on the needs of individual applications. The grant needs to be exhausted by the end on the project, the length of which would be proposed by the applicants themselves.

What projects will not be supported? Funds from Dana Belia 1Malaysia must not be used to support:

Can we apply to Dana Belia 1Malaysia for business? We do accept business proposals, as long as it is business with a difference. Dana Belia 1Malaysia is a fund for youth development and unity, and is not meant for something that profits any single person or entity. Your business must bring strong spill-over benefit to the targeted community. You must also be able to spur other youth to join your cause, beyond just providing employment.
