institutions, specifically Yale, Cornell and The University of  Pennsylvania. Dr. Wise’s approach to surgery includes advanced surgical technique, nutritional supplements and vitamins, to allow for the shortest recovery time possible, with minimal discomfort. While Dr. Wise’s facelift tightens the neck and better defines the jaw line, he frequently performs eyelid rejuvenation procedures, laser skin resurfacing and fat transfer in conjunction with face lifting to further restore the youthful architecture of the face.

Dr. Wise has received notable mention for his surgical accomplishments in the area of Otoplasty (correction of prominent ears) as well as Rhinoplasty or nose-reshaping surgery. With summer just around the corner, laser hair removal is a safe, effective and popular option. Patients are amazed about how easy and painless hair removal can be with Dr. Wise. Recently seen on The Dr. Oz show, Ulthera is the latest breakthrough procedure, bringing Dr. Wise rave reviews! This non-surgical treatment for the face and

neck uses ultrasound for lifting, tightening and toning the skin. Patients love the results, and enjoy all the benefits of  returning to their normal activities right away! While his training and credentials are unmatched, his patient’s testimonials and loyalty is truly the true test. A continued on page 8

Depending on the type of tear and the location of the tear, we typically either resect the damaged part or repair the tear by using sutures to sew it back. I personally enjoy performing the suturing operation much more than the “resecting the damaged

it may be difficult to reach the next stone both physically and mentally, and patience allowwill thepower procession to continue. Confidence grows with each successful conquest. Rock climbing also helps children with their motor planning. They have to think about and plan their next move on the wall. Climbing teaches team work as the climber is attached to an automatic belay or rope that the belayer is responsible for. The belayer helps to support the child, so the child must learn to trust the belayer and the equipment. The automatic belay is secured to a body harness. The use of the automatic belay and harness allows the climber to always be in an upright position even if the child has poor head or trunk control. It is an absolutely safe device that makes it impossible for a child to fall since the belay gradually and automatically will slowly bring the child down if  they come off the wall. In addition to the psychological and emotional benefits of climbing there are endless physical benefits. Climbing on a wall builds muscular strength, flexibility, coordination and cardiovascular fitness. Every muscle group in the entire body is given a workout. Reaching for hand holds and stretching for foot holds develops flexibility. Moving hands and feet simultaneously simultaneous ly on both sides of the body develops coordination. Cardiovascular fitness results from increasing speed and the number of trials on the wall. As the child’s skill level advances the wall can be made more challenging by moving stones wider apart to increase step length and by using smaller stones. It is estimated that well over 60% of the population have some form of  periodontal disease ranging from gingivitis to advanced stages involving bone loss and the loss of one’s teeth. Patients with transplant organs, undergoing cancer treatments, or joint replacements should have any gum or mouth infections treated first. These patients are to be covered with antibiotics before these dental treatments. Many doctors require their patients to be cleared by a dentist prior to treatment. Dentists are now becoming recognized as oral physicians who can diagnose medical issues by examining the condition of  the mouth. Many types of  leukemias, human papilloma virus, liver disease, oral cancer, and bulimia show signs in the oral cavity. As it gets hotter, it is important to take some simple precautions to keep our pets healthy and safe from the hazards that accompany summer. Heat stroke is a very serious and very common occurrence during the summer months and results when your pet’s body temperature rises above the normal range. Heat stroke can be a life-threatening disease, can afflict dogs or cats quite rapidly and be difficult to treat. A little prevention can go a long way. Certain pets may be predisposed to this condition such as brachycephalic breeds (i.e. pushed in nose) like a Bulldog or Persian cat, overweight pets, very young and very old

The most known adage is to never leave a pet in the car on warm days. Even with the windows open temperatures in a car can rise to deadly levels within minutes. Dogs and cats don’t sweat the same way as we do. They thermo-regulate thermo-regul ate mostly by panting and can sweat minimally through the bottom of their feet. One of the easiest preventative measures is to make sure that pets have free access to water and shade when kept outside. Early signs of heat stroke

In the the meantime, should remove animal you from the hot area and can start lowering your pet’s body temperature. This shouldn’t be done too quickly which can also be dangerous. Therefore only use cool water,  NO ice. An easy remedy is to place cool water soaked T-shirt on your pet and take them right to your veterinarian. Aside from heat stroke, more outdoor activities mean the risk of outdoor traumas and accidents increases. Some tips include: not leaving pets unsupervised around a pool, make sure all pets wear flotation devices on boats, and try not to let your dog drink pool water, which contains chemicals that could cause stomach upset. Fleas are a common pest that live off the blood of their hosts and can cause itching or worse an allergic reaction, called flea-bite dermatitis. Fleas can also be carriers for an intestinal parasite called tapeworms. Mosquitoes are another pest and can carry heartworms, which can be life threatening to your dog and cat. More trips to the dog park can also increase exposure to infected soil and intestinal parasites, some of which are transmissible to people (zoonotic). RUE OR FALSE 1. It’s Sunday morning. After gardening the day before you feel stiff  getting out of bed. When bending over to pick up the newspaper you feel a sharp pain in your back and cannot straighten up. The best thing to do is lie on the couch with a heat pack.

FALSE. For any acute injury, meaning less than 3 days, cold should be applied, not heat. Heat engorges the injured tissue with stagnant blood, increases inflammation and prolongs recovery time. Cold, on the other hand, encourages fresh blood into the area by flushing the stagnant blood out, helps reduce inflammation and speeds healing. Cold also assists in breaking the pain-spasm cycle typical of acute back or neck strains. As a rule of thumb... when in doubt, use cold. Some points to remember: •Always wrap the ice pack in a cloth

2. According to the U.S. governments’ Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, the only two treatments proven safe and effective for reducing most forms of back pain are chiropractic spinal manipulation and non-prescription medication. TRUE. In 1994 this United States government agency released its comprehensive, evidence-based guideline for the management of back pain. Bed rest, natural remission (e.g.: do nothing), prescription drugs, modalities such as traction, TENS, ultrasound and massage, as well as injections, needle acupuncture and surgery were all either clearly rejected or strongly recommended against.

However, reliance on non-prescription medication for controlling back pain may be detrimental to long-term health. Chiropractors point out that relying on medication can mask an underlying back problem, such as deteri-

What every person should know about skin cancer

S

kin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Over half of all new cancers are skin cancers and more than 1 million new cases of  skin cancer will be diagnosed this year in the U.S. Approximately 10,000 people will die of skin cancer this year; most skin cancers have a very high cure rate if detected and treated early. The primary cause of skin cancer is excessive sun exposure; other causes include radiation, viral infections, trauma, genetics, and immunosuppression. Types of Skin Cancers The majority of all new skin cancers are basal cell cancers and squamous cell cancers; melanomas comprise the rest. More than 75% of  skin cancer deaths are from melanoma, and there will be about 100,000 new cases of

As is the case with any vacation, cost came into play as well, as 13 percent of respondents liked that rentals were often less expensive than hotels. The duration of the vacation also plays a role. Temperatures are going up… “but your electric bill doesn’ doesn’tt have to!”

T

hanks to an innovative and comprehensive initiative from the state of New Jersey, you are now able to choose who you buy energy from. As with the Phone Company and Cable Television, the state of New Jersey has deregulated electric service. While your local utility, Jersey Central Power and Light or Public Service Electric will continue to be responsible for maintaining the existing network of wires, pipes and poles, other licensed suppliers can now provide the electricity at lower rates.

It’s the same electricity only at a lower price. The relationship with your household or business does not change and your utility company will continue to bill you each month and service your account. And, if you have a service contract with either PSE&G or JCP&L or if you are enrolled in budget billing, nothing changes. Except every dollar saved goes directly into your pocket. iConnectEnergyy is offeriConnectEnerg ing all businesses and residences in NJ reduced pricing which can lead to docu-

mented savings of over 15% a month on the supply portion of your electric electric bill. Additionally, a $50 check is issued to each business or residence for signing up. There are no contracts to sign and the enrollment takes just minutes. This is so simple and easy. Now purchasing energy energy is comparable to shopping in the supermarket with your supermarket discount card. If you are buying Corn Flakes and the person in front of  you is buying Corn Flakes, you use your supermarket discount card and pay much less

pared for multiple major tax increases! How do you defend against tax multiple major tax increases? Invest in tax-free and tax-deferred savings and investment vehicles. Further, these vehicles should be insured by solvent, highly rated insurance carriers that offer lifetime and joint lifetime (spousal income protection) guaranteed* income streams that can be initiated or postponed by you at any time (not them). They must also offer access to at least 90% of your total account value at any time you request it in case of an emergency need. If you are unfamiliar with investment alternatives that offer these features, it is imperative that you find out now! If the predictors of doom and gloom are accurate and there are many more today than ever before, a major portion of your portfolio needs to be safe, secure, liquid and positioned for bad news, while simultaneously positioned for growth during the Bull Markets. Can all of this be done? Yes! Portfolio protection, which I’ll call portfolio insurance, is not optional in my opinion. With all of the bad news and facts listed above, can you afford to be illprepared? The Trinity Method of Investing©is a concept that has never been more needed than in the economic situation we all face today. Protection from the 5 forces of portfolio demise, lifetime income guarantees, liquidity, growth for the

future and tax advantages, if  these are features you desire for your portfolio and the funds you are and will be depending on for your retirement years, you owe it to yourself and family to get all of the facts and figures, design attributes and implementation strategies or you could dismiss it, under the guise it sounds “too good to be that true”. If you invest the time to learn more, I’ll invest the time to teach you. The call is free, the appointment is free and the knowledge you acquire is priceless! priceless! Call me for a no obligation appointment today! Mark E. Charnet is President and Founder of American Pros perity Group.
